Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. The Heart of It
Let's slow down and treasure the Father's words from the river. Three little phrases carry an ocean of meaning. "This is My Son." Jesus is no ordinary teacher. He is God the Son, eternally one with the Father. "My beloved Son." The Father's heart is full of warm, fatherly love for Him. "In whom I am well pleased." The Father delights in Jesus. He takes joy in Him. He is glad Jesus exists. The Maker of galaxies opened the sky just to say how much He loves His Son.
Here is the wonder for your family. When you trust Jesus, you are placed in Him (). And what the Father says over Jesus, He begins to say over everyone joined to Jesus. You become a beloved child the Father delights in. You didn't earn it. Jesus shares His standing with you. That is why this verse is worth hiding in your heart. On the days you feel like a failure, you can whisper it back to your own soul. The Father is pleased with me in His beloved Son. Memorizing Scripture isn't about being impressive. It's loading your heart with truth the Spirit can bring back exactly when you need it ().
Around the Table
Say it with me three times: "My beloved Son!" That's what God called Jesus.
Let's do it: Point up for "voice from heaven," then hug yourself for "beloved." Act it out together!
"Beloved" means deeply loved. And "well pleased" means God was glad and happy with Jesus.
Let's talk: Which word do you like best, beloved or pleased, and why?
Because you're "in Christ," the Father's delight in Jesus reaches you too.
Let's go deeper: How could remembering this verse change a day when you feel like you've messed up?

Can our whole family say Matthew 3:17 from memory together? Let's try it three ways — whispering, then loud, then with our eyes closed!
🛡️ Defending the Faith
Skeptics ask, "Did Jesus ever claim to be God's Son, or did followers invent it?" Here the Father declares it from heaven (). And the earliest written accounts record it plainly. We hold a faith built on testimony, not legend. ()

The word "beloved" is agapētos in Greek. It appears again at the Transfiguration, and it echoes Isaiah's Servant songs. The Father is identifying Jesus as the chosen, treasured One who will save His people. As you store this verse with your kids, remember that hidden Scripture becomes the Spirit's working material. He "brings to remembrance" what we've planted (). A father who memorizes alongside his children models that God's Word isn't homework but treasure. Don't just assign the verse. Let them watch you reach for it when you're discouraged.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that Jesus is Your beloved Son. Thank You that in Him You call us beloved too. Help us hide Your words in our hearts. Help us remember them when we need them most. In Jesus' name, amen."
The Father's delight in Jesus reaches all the way to me.
