📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: 1 Chronicles 24–26

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 136 of 365 — the temple workers organized for worship.)

The Heart of It

Today we slow down and learn our memory verse by heart. Listen to the order of what happens in verse 39. Jesus "got up and rebuked the wind and the sea. 'Silence!' He commanded. 'Be still!' And the wind died down, and it was perfectly calm." He spoke first. Then the storm obeyed. The wind didn't slowly die down. It stopped the instant He commanded it. That is how creation answers its Creator. The same voice that said "Let there be light" in said "Be still" on the Sea of Galilee. And both times, the universe listened.

So when the disciples whisper, "Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?" they have stumbled onto the most important question in the world. The little word "even" is the key. Even the wind bows to Jesus. No human can control the wind. Sailors are afraid of it. Yet it obeys Him. If wind and waves obey Him, then nothing in your life is out of His reach. Not your fears. Not your friendships. Not your future. Memorizing this verse isn't just storing words. It is planting a truth deep enough to steady you the next time your boat starts to fill with water.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

Let's learn it with our bodies! Wiggle for the wind, then hold still and say, "Even the wind obeys Him!"

Let's do it: Say the verse three times, getting quieter each time, until you whisper it.

Middles 7–9

The word "even" is special. It means that the hardest thing of all still obeys Jesus.

Let's talk: Can you say the verse from memory? What part is hardest to remember?

Older 10–13

The same voice that said "Let there be light" also said "Be still." Same authority. Same voice.

Let's go deeper: Write the verse from memory. Then explain what the word "obey" tells us about who Jesus is.

💬 Conversation Starter

If you could tell one thing in nature to obey you for a day, what would it be? And what would you make it do?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Could a person calm a storm just by talking to it? No ordinary human could. And that is the whole point. The disciples were stunned because they knew this was not normal. It pushed them toward the only sensible answer. Jesus is much more than a teacher. ( tells us to always be ready to give the reason.)

For Dad · Go Deeper

Memorizing Scripture with your kids is one of the best investments you can make. It works best when it is repeated, rhythmic, and unhurried, not crammed. gives us the goal: "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You." A verse memorized at age seven can come back at age forty in the middle of a real storm. So don't rush this day. Say it in the car. Say it at meals. Say it at bedtime. Let the littlest ones get the gist, and let the older ones get it word-perfect. You're not running a quiz. You are handing your children weapons of peace that they will carry long after you're gone.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for Your Word. Help us hide this verse deep in our hearts. Help us remember that even the wind obeys Jesus. Make us calm and brave because He is near. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

Even the wind and the sea obey Him. And that same Jesus is listening to me.
