Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 159 of 365 — wisdom calls out in the streets.)The Heart of It
Lots of people say they love you. tells us how God proves it. The word "demonstrates" means He puts His love on display. It's like holding something up high so everyone can see it. And what does God hold up to prove His love? The cross. Notice the timing in our verse. Christ died for us "while we were still sinners." He didn't wait until we were good enough. He didn't wait until we were sorry enough or trying hard enough. We were still running away from Him. And that is exactly when He came running toward us.
Think about how unusual that is. Once in a while, someone will risk their life for a person they really admire (). But God sent His Son to die for people who had ignored Him, disobeyed Him, even hated Him. That's why the cross is the loudest "I love you" the universe has ever heard. So when you wonder, "Does God really love me?" you never have to guess. Just look at Jesus on the cross and remember: that's how much. His love doesn't depend on how you're doing today. It was settled forever while you were still a sinner.
Around the Table
How much does God love you? Jesus stretched out His arms on the cross to show us. He loves us this much!
Let's do it: Stretch your arms out wide and say, "God loves me THIS much!" three times.
God didn't wait for us to be good before He loved us. He loved us first, while we were still sinners.
Let's talk: Jesus died for us before we ever loved Him back. Why is that so amazing?
"Demonstrates" means God proved His love with an action, not just words. The cross is the evidence ().
Let's go deeper: How does answer someone who feels God could never love them?

🛡️ Defending the Faith
How do we know God loves us, and isn't just distant or angry? He proved it in history, not just in feelings. Jesus really died, in a real place, for real sinners (). Christianity rests its biggest claim on something that actually happened. It doesn't rest on wishful thinking ().

quietly demolishes performance-based religion. Paul does not say, "Get your act together and God will love you." He says God loved us at our worst. That order matters in your home. Obedience flows from being loved, never the other way around. If your children grow up thinking God's affection is a wage they earn by good behavior, they'll either despair or grow proud. So show them grace first. Discipline them, yes. But make sure they always know that your love, and the Father's, was never the reward waiting at the finish line. It was the ground they stood on the whole time. A child who feels secure in love obeys very differently than a child trying to buy it.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You for proving Your love at the cross. We didn't earn it. We couldn't earn it. You loved us first. Help us rest in that love and live out of it. In Jesus' name, amen."
God didn't wait for me to be good. He loved me while I was still a sinner, and proved it at the cross.
