Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 162 of 365 — the Lord directs our steps.)The Heart of It
Back in the garden, Jesus prayed, "not My will, but Yours." And then something tender happened. "An angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him" (). Think about that. Even Jesus, the strong Son of God, received help from heaven to walk the hardest road. He didn't grit His teeth and power through on His own. And tells us something amazing about how Jesus offered Himself on the cross. He did it "through the eternal Spirit." The Holy Spirit was at work in Jesus' obedience, all the way to the cross. Jesus was full of the Spirit, and the Spirit gave Him strength to do the Father's will.
This is the heart of walking in the Spirit. God never meant for us to obey Him by our own willpower. He never meant for us to grind our way through hard things all alone. The very same Spirit who strengthened Jesus is given to everyone who belongs to Him (). Sometimes obeying feels too heavy. Maybe it's being honest when honesty is costly. Maybe it's forgiving someone, or doing the right thing when no one is watching. In those moments, we don't reach down for more grit. We look up and ask the Holy Spirit to strengthen us. We can't do God's will in our own strength. And the good news is, we were never asked to. "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit" ().
Around the Table
When Jesus was sad in the garden, God sent help to make Him strong. God will help you be strong too!
Let's do it: Flex your muscles and say, "Holy Spirit, help me obey God today!"
Even Jesus received strength from heaven. We don't have to obey God all by ourselves — His Spirit helps us.
Let's talk: Name one hard thing you can ask the Holy Spirit to help you do this week.
The Bible says Jesus offered Himself "through the eternal Spirit." So the obedience that pleases God comes from the Spirit's power, not from our own.
Let's go deeper: Where have you been trying to obey God by willpower, instead of asking the Spirit for help?

🛡️ Defending the Faith
If Jesus needed strengthening, was He really God? Yes. He was fully God and fully man (). As a true man, He grew tired and prayed. As true God, He never stopped being divine. Two natures in one Person isn't a contradiction. It's the wonder that lets Him both feel our weakness and save us from it ().
For Dad · Go Deeper
Classic Pentecostal teaching insists the Christian life is empowered, not merely required. That truth changes how we lead our homes. Many of us father in our own strength. We manage, we correct, we provide. And we end up worn out and irritable, because willpower runs dry. But the Spirit who strengthened Christ in the garden is offered to fill you (; ). Notice the order tonight. Jesus prayed. He surrendered. And then He received strength. Dependence comes before power. So before you try to "be a better dad," ask the Father to fill you afresh with His Spirit. And remember what this filling is for. It's for Christlike character and faithful obedience. It's not for show or hype. Character over gifting, every time.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that we don't have to obey You on our own. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Strengthen us the way You strengthened Jesus. Help us do Your will with joy. In Jesus' name, amen."
I don't obey God by willpower. The same Spirit who strengthened Jesus strengthens me.
