Month 6: The Cross — Why Jesus Died · Loving Others

⏱ ≈ 12 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Romans 10:9-10, 13-15

9 that if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved. … 13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” 14 How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? 15 And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

Memory Verse

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,Romans 5:1 (BSB)

The Heart of It

Imagine you found the cure for a terrible sickness. The most loving thing you could do would be to tell people. The gospel is exactly that. It is the cure for the deepest problem anyone has. And Paul makes the way in beautifully simple: "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (). It's not complicated. It's not only for grown-ups. A child can believe in their heart and say with their mouth that Jesus is Lord. "For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved" (v. 13). Whoever includes the kid next door, the cousin, the neighbor, anyone.

But then Paul asks a string of questions that lands right on us. How will people call on Jesus if they've never heard? And how will they hear "without a preacher" (v. 14)? That "preacher" isn't only a pastor in a pulpit. It's anyone willing to share. That's why he ends with, "How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!" (v. 15). God thinks the feet that carry good news are beautiful. Loving others means caring about more than their happiness today. It means wanting them to have peace with God forever. Your family has the best news in the world, and people are waiting to hear it.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

Jesus is such good news that we want to tell people! We can say, "Jesus loves you!"

Let's do it: Point at your own feet. God calls them "beautiful" when they go and tell people about Jesus!

Middles 7–9

Anyone who calls on Jesus can be saved. So we get to share the news with friends and neighbors.

Let's talk: Who is one person you know who needs to hear about Jesus? How could you tell them?

Older 10–13

shows how simple the gospel is to receive. You believe in the heart, and you confess with the mouth.

Let's go deeper: What stops people, and us, from sharing? How could you share naturally with a friend this week?

💬 Conversation Starter

When you hear amazing news, who's the first person you want to tell? Why is Jesus the best news of all to share?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Isn't it arrogant to tell others they need Jesus? No. It's loving. If Jesus really rose and is the only way to peace with God (), then keeping quiet would be the unkind thing. We share gently and respectfully, with reasons for our hope, because we genuinely care ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Many believers want their children to share their faith, but they never model it at home. Sam Rainer notes that kids "catch" evangelism far more than they're "taught" it. They imitate what they see. So the question isn't only "Are my kids bold?" It's also "Do they ever see me talk about Jesus with a neighbor, a coworker, a cashier?" You don't need a polished script. You need a willing, prayerful heart and a family that prays together for specific people by name. Start small this week. Pick one neighbor or friend. Pray for them as a family. Then look for a natural moment to speak. Beautiful feet are simply ordinary feet that go.

Draws on: Sam Rainer, on raising children who share their faith.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You that whoever calls on Jesus will be saved. Make us willing to share that good news. Help us speak it kindly. Bring to our minds the people who need to hear it. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

I have the best news in the world. Loving people means telling them.
