Jesus made a beautiful promise about praying together. He said, "if two of you agree on earth concerning anything that they ask, it will be done for them by My Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them" (). Prayer is wonderful when you're alone. But Jesus tells us there's something special about praying with others. We agree together. We lift the same request to the Father. And the very best part isn't the answer. It's that Jesus Himself promises to be right there in the middle of the room with us. Our little family prayer circle is never as small as it looks.
shows this in action. Peter was thrown in prison, chained between soldiers. The church didn't know what to do. So they did the most powerful thing they could. "Constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church" (). That very night an angel woke Peter. His chains fell off, and he walked free. Where did he go? Straight to the house where the believers were gathered together praying (). What a picture of loving others! When someone we care about is in trouble, the most loving thing we can do is bring them to God together. A praying family carries one another straight to the Father's feet. We carry the people around us there too. When we agree in prayer for a sick friend, a hurting neighbor, or a brother having a hard day, we're loving them with the greatest help there is.
Around the Table
When we pray together, Jesus is right here with us! And we can pray for people we love who need help.
Let's do it: Hold hands in a circle and each say one name of someone you want to pray for. Then pray for them together!
The church prayed together for Peter, and God set him free! Praying for others is one of the most loving things we can do.
Let's talk: Who do you know that's having a hard time right now? Let's agree in prayer for them together.
Jesus promises to be present when believers gather to pray in His name. Agreeing prayer is a gift He gave the family of God.
Let's go deeper: The church kept praying even when it seemed impossible. What does teach us about not giving up when we pray for others?

Is it easier or harder to pray out loud with other people than by yourself? Why do you think Jesus wants us to pray together sometimes?
🛡️ Defending the Faith
Wasn't Peter's escape just a lucky coincidence? Consider the timing. He was chained between guards, with the doors locked. And it happened on the very night the church was praying. An angel frees him, and even the praying believers could hardly believe it (). Luke was a careful historian who interviewed eyewitnesses, and he records it as fact. Answered prayer that no one expected is hard to explain as mere luck.

You are the pastor of the smallest, most important congregation you'll ever lead. is not only about church gatherings. It's a promise you can claim around your own table. When your family gathers in Jesus' name, He is there. That changes family prayer from a routine into a holy meeting. One of the most formative habits you can build is agreeing prayer. Let your kids hear you pray specifically for their fears, their friends, the wandering relative, the sick neighbor. Then invite them to pray with you. This is how you teach intercession. Not as a concept, but as a family carrying real people to a present God. Sam Rainer notes that homes where parents pray with their kids, not just for them, raise children who keep praying as adults.
