⏱ ≈ 12 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Genesis 28:15–16

15 Look, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” 16 When Jacob woke up, he said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I was unaware of it.”

Memory Verse

Look, I am with you, and I will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”Genesis 28:15 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Leviticus 8–10

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 46 of 365 — priests set apart to serve a holy God.)

The Heart of It

Today we slow down and hide one big promise in our hearts. Read God's words to Jacob again slowly, and look at how many comforting pieces are packed inside. "I am with you." That's His presence. "I will keep you wherever you go." That's His protection. "I will bring you back." That's His plan. "I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken." That's His promise to finish. God doesn't just stay with us when things are easy. He keeps us "wherever" we go. Even running. Even afraid. Even far from home.

When Jacob woke up he said, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it" (). God had been right there all along. Jacob just hadn't noticed. That is why we memorize a verse like this. One day a child feels alone at school, or scared in the dark, or far from the people they love. On that day, the Holy Spirit can bring these very words back to mind. A memorized promise is like a flashlight you packed before the power went out. Hide it now, and God will help you find it exactly when you need it.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

God says, "I am with you!" Can you say it back? Practice the first three words today.

Let's do it: Clap on each word. "I (clap) am (clap) with (clap) you (clap)!" Keep going until everyone can say it.

Middles 7–9

Our verse has four promises. God is with us. God keeps us. God brings us back. God never leaves. Can you find each one?

Let's talk: Which of the four promises do you most need to remember this week?

Older 10–13

"I did not know it," Jacob said. God was present even when Jacob didn't feel it. Feelings aren't the test of God's presence. His Word is.

Let's go deeper: How could you preach this verse to yourself on a day you feel forgotten?

What helps you fall asleep when you feel scared at night? What if you tried saying "God is with me" out loud?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Isn't "God is with me" just wishful thinking that makes people feel better? No. Christianity isn't built on feelings. It is built on a God who acts in history and keeps His written word. We believe He is with us because He proved it. He came in person as Jesus (), and we can give a reason for that hope ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Scripture memory is one of the most loving, lasting gifts you can give your children. But it works best when it is yours first. A verse you have truly taken to heart leaks out of you naturally. In the car. At bedtime. In the middle of a hard day. Don't aim mainly for perfect recitation. Aim for treasured truth. "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You" (). Tonight, try saying aloud over your kids as a blessing rather than a drill. Let them hear it as words spoken to them. Andrew Murray reminds parents that what we want most for our children is not information about God, but a living confidence in Him.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for promising to be with us, to keep us, and to never leave us. Help us hide Your words in our hearts. Help us remember them when we are afraid. Thank You that You are here even when we don't feel it. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

God is in this place, even when I don't notice. And He will never leave me.
