Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Day 5 of 365 — God promises a son to Abraham and Sarah.)The Heart of It
Right after the Bible tells us God created the heavens and the earth, it shows us how He was present in His new world. "The Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters" (). The Holy Spirit is not a newcomer who shows up later in the story. He was there at the very beginning. He hovered close, like a mother bird over her nest. He was ready to bring order, beauty, and life out of the dark and the deep. The God who made everything is one God in three Persons. He is Father, Son, and Spirit, working together. The Father spoke. The Son, who is the Word (), is the one through whom all things were made. And the Spirit moved over the waters.
This matters for your family today, not just for understanding the past. The same Holy Spirit who hovered over creation is the One Jesus gives to His people now (). He still loves to bring light into darkness, and life where there was none. He does it in our hearts. He does it in our homes. He does it in our habits. So when things feel dark or messy in your life, remember this. The Spirit loves to hover over the empty and the messy and make something very good. He was there at the start of the world, and He wants to be at the start of each new day with you.
Around the Table
When everything was dark, God's Spirit was right there, close and ready to help! The Holy Spirit loves to bring light.
Let's do it: Turn off the lights, then turn them on and say, "God brings light!"
The Spirit of God was "hovering" right from the start. He stayed close, like a bird over its nest. Where do you need God to bring order out of a mess?
Let's talk: The Father, the Son, and the Spirit are all one God. How were they all part of making the world?
Genesis hints at the Trinity in its very first lines. God speaks. The Word creates. The Spirit hovers. Why does it matter that the Spirit is a Person, not just a power?
Let's go deeper: The Spirit who made order out of a mess lives in believers today. What mess could you invite Him into this week?

What is the messiest place in our house right now? God's Spirit loves bringing good order out of messes. And He does the very same thing in our hearts!
🛡️ Defending the Faith
The God of the Bible has always been one God in three Persons. And already shows it. God creates. His Word speaks. His Spirit hovers. The Trinity isn't a later invention. It's woven in from verse one.
For Dad · Go Deeper
We often jump to to talk about the Holy Spirit. But Scripture introduces Him long before that, in , present and active in creation. Teach your kids now that the Spirit has always been a Person. It lays a foundation for the fuller Pentecostal teaching to come. The same Spirit who hovered over the waters lives in believers, empowers our witness, and grows Christlike fruit. Resist any temptation to treat the Spirit as a force you wield. He is God. He is to be loved and yielded to, not used. As you lead family worship, quietly depend on Him. Ask Him to bring light to your own dark places before you ask anything of your children. A father walking in the Spirit teaches more by aroma than by argument.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that Your Spirit was there at the very beginning, bringing light and life. Holy Spirit, hover over our home today. Bring Your order, light, and life into us. In Jesus' name, amen."
The Spirit who brought light to the dark world is still bringing light to me.
