A Path Through the Red Sea
Month 3: The Great Rescue · Bible Story
Today's Scripture
Read together: Exodus 14:21-25
21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided, 22 and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left. 23 And the Egyptians chased after them—all Pharaoh’s horses, chariots, and horsemen—and followed them into the sea. 24 At morning watch, however, the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians from the pillar of fire and cloud, and He threw their camp into confusion. 25 He caused their chariot wheels to wobble, so that they had difficulty driving. “Let us flee from the Israelites,” said the Egyptians, “for the LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!”

Today's reading: Deuteronomy 14–16
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 75 of 365 — Moses reminds Israel how to live as a rescued people.)The Heart of It
Picture it. A million freed slaves are trapped. The Red Sea roars in front of them. Behind them the dust of Pharaoh's chariots is rising fast. There is no road. There is no boat. There is no way out. And then Moses stretches out his hand. "All that night the LORD drove back the sea with a strong east wind that turned it into dry land" (). The waters stood up like walls. Israel walked through on a path God carved with His own breath. This was no lucky accident. God made a way where there was no way. And He did it so His people would know exactly who saved them.
Notice that God didn't just open the sea. He fought for them. He threw Pharaoh's army into confusion. He made their chariot wheels wobble. He turned their charge into a panic (). The Egyptians said it themselves. "The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt!" That is the secret of the whole rescue. Israel's job was not to be strong enough or fast enough. Their job was to trust the God who is. The same God who split the sea later split a tomb open on Easter morning. When we feel trapped, with trouble in front and behind, we serve a God who still makes a way.
Around the Table
God blew on the sea and made a dry road so His people could walk right through! Then He kept them safe.
Let's do it: Blow a big breath like the wind, then march in place across the "sea."
The people were stuck with the sea ahead and the army behind, and God made a way out.
Let's talk: What does it mean that "the LORD fights for" His people?
God didn't remove the danger before He asked Israel to trust. He parted the sea after they faced it. Faith often steps before it sees.
Let's go deeper: Where in your life is God asking you to trust Him before you can see the path?

What is the most stuck you have ever felt? And what finally got you out? God is really good at no-way-out moments.
🛡️ Defending the Faith
A strong east wind does not pile water into standing walls on its own. And it does not drop them at the perfect moment on its own either. The timing and the control point to a Mind behind it. The God who designed the sea can command it. A Maker is never trapped by what He made.
For Dad · Go Deeper
The Red Sea is the Old Testament's great picture of salvation. A helpless people. An impossible barrier. And a God who saves by His own arm while they stand still. Paul even calls it a kind of baptism. Israel was "baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea" (). For you as the spiritual leader of your home, the lesson is about direction, not just feelings. There are nights when the most faithful thing you can do is stop scrambling and let God fight. Your kids are watching to see whether Dad trusts God when the chariots are closing in. Lead them to the edge of the water. Then point them to the One who opens it.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that You make a way where there is no way. When we feel trapped and afraid, help us trust that You are fighting for us. Tonight we give You our impossible places. In Jesus' name, amen."
When I run out of road, God can make one. He still parts seas for His people.
