God Dwells with Us: Worship at the Tent

Month 3: The Great Rescue · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Exodus 29:43–46

43 I will also meet with the Israelites there, and that place will be consecrated by My glory. 44 So I will consecrate the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and I will consecrate Aaron and his sons to serve Me as priests. 45 Then I will dwell among the Israelites and be their God. 46 And they will know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of the land of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the LORD their God.

Memory Verse

And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.Deuteronomy 6:5 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Joshua 22–24

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 88 of 365 — Joshua's farewell: "as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.")

The Heart of It

Listen to the promise God makes over the Tabernacle: "I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I might dwell among them" (). Read those last words slowly. Why did God rescue Israel from Egypt? Not just to set them free. He did it so He could live among them. The whole great rescue had one tender goal underneath it all. The plagues, the Passover blood, the split-open sea, all of it. God wanted to be with His people. That has always been His heart, from the garden, to the tent, to forever.

And the rescue story keeps growing. The God who dwelt in a tent became flesh and "dwelt among us" in Jesus (). After Jesus rose and returned to heaven, He poured out the Holy Spirit so God could dwell inside His people (). And the Bible ends with the loudest version of this same promise: "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them" (). God with us, face to face, forever. So today, as a family, we worship the God who never wanted to keep His distance. He rescued us so we could be with Him. That's worth singing about, kneeling about, and celebrating together. Let's lift our voices to the God who came near and is making His home with us.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

God rescued His people so He could LIVE with them — He loves being close to you! Let's tell Him "thank You!"

Let's do it: Give a big happy clap and shout together, "God wants to be with us!" Then sing a favorite worship song.

Middles 7–9

God's rescue had a goal. He wanted to live with His people. How does it feel to know God wants to be close to you?

Let's talk: What's one way our family can make worship at home feel like a real celebration this week?

Older 10–13

Trace the thread. God lived in a tent, then in Jesus, then in us by His Spirit. And one day we'll be with Him face to face.

Let's go deeper: If the whole Bible is the story of God coming to dwell with us, how should that shape what you live for?

💬 Conversation Starter

Who is someone you love being with so much that just being near them makes you happy? That's a little picture of how much God wants to be with us.

🛡️ Defending the Faith

How do we know God actually wants a relationship and isn't just a faraway idea? Look at the one storyline running through the whole Bible. From Eden, to the Tabernacle, to Jesus, "God with us" (), to the Spirit, to the new creation. Again and again, Scripture tells one story of God drawing near. We can share with gentleness and respect () that the Christian God is the one God who comes to us.

For Dad · Go Deeper

"That I might dwell among them" () is the beating heart of the whole Bible. Immanuel, God with us. Let this reshape your family worship tonight, away from performance and toward presence. The point of gathering your children around the Word is not to complete a religious task or check a box. It is to enjoy and respond to a God who actually delights to dwell with you. As a Spirit-filled father, lead worship that has room for genuine adoration. Singing, thanksgiving, perhaps a moment of quiet to simply welcome His presence. Do it without manufactured hype or emotional pressure. Real worship is the natural overflow of hearts that grasp this astonishing truth: the God of the burning bush and the Red Sea wants to live with us. Model awe, and your children will learn to seek His face, not just His hand.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, You rescued Your people so You could live among them. And You want to be with us too. Thank You for coming near in Jesus. Thank You for living in us by Your Spirit. We worship You. You are the God who never stays far away. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

God's great rescue was always about this: He wanted to be with me. And one day I'll see Him face to face.
