📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Genesis 27–29

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 9 of 365 — Jacob receives the blessing and meets Rachel.)

The Heart of It

Today we slow down and hide one mighty verse in our hearts. is part of the Ten Commandments. These are words God spoke out loud from a mountain wrapped in fire and smoke. When God gave the command to keep a day of rest, He gave a reason. And the reason reaches all the way back to creation. "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth." God didn't say "long ago." He didn't say "over countless ages." He said six days, and then He rested. The same God who thundered from Sinai is the God who spoke the world into being.

That's why this verse is so precious. It's God Himself telling us how He made the world. It's not a guess from a scientist. It's not a story made up by people. It's the Maker's own report. When your children memorize , they are tucking away an answer they will need for the rest of their lives. One day someone will tell them the world made itself over billions of years. Then they can reach into their heart, pull out this verse, and say with quiet confidence, "God said He did it in six days, and I trust Him." Hiding God's Word in our hearts now builds courage for later.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

Let's learn God's special words by heart! "In six days... God made everything... and rested."

Let's do it: Hold up six fingers and count them as you say "six days," then make a sleepy "rest" face. Repeat the verse three times together.

Middles 7–9

God spoke this verse out loud from a mountain. It tells us how long creation took — six days, then rest.

Let's talk: Break the verse into three parts (six days / He rested / He blessed the day). Can you say each part on your own?

Older 10–13

grounds the Sabbath command in real history. God's reason for the commandment is the six-day creation.

Let's go deeper: Why does it matter that God gives a historical reason, not just a rule? What would change if creation weren't real?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

When someone asks how we know God made the world in six days, we don't have to guess. God told us plainly in , in His own words spoken at Mount Sinai. We can trust the Maker's report over anyone else's guess ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Memory work is not busywork. It is spiritual formation. The psalmist said, "Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You" (). A verse known by heart is a weapon ready at hand. Jesus Himself answered temptation in the wilderness by quoting Deuteronomy from memory. When you lead your children to memorize , you are arming them for a culture that will press them hard on where the world came from. Keep it light and joyful. Use repetition over weeks. Use motions for the littles, and friendly races for the older ones. And memorize alongside them. Your kids learn that God's Word is worth knowing best by watching you treasure it.

Let's Pray Together
