📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Zephaniah 1-3

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Zephaniah ends with God singing over His people — "He will rejoice over you with gladness.")

The Heart of It

Thomas had just admitted he was confused. He said, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?" Jesus did not hand him a map. He did not hand him a list of rules. He gave him Himself. He said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." Notice that He did not say He would show the way or teach the truth. He said He is all three. Jesus is not one good idea among many. He is the road home to the Father. He is the truth our whole life can stand on. He is the very life of God offered to us.

That last line is loving and clear at the same time. "No one comes to the Father except through Me." Some people think that sounds narrow. But picture a child lost in the dark. Then someone hands him one strong, sure hand to hold. That is not cruelty. That is rescue. God did not leave us to guess our way to Him. He sent His own Son to be the way for everyone who will take His hand (). This week, hide this verse in your heart. When life feels confusing, you will not need all the answers. You will need the One who is the Way.

Around the Table

Littles 4–7

Jesus said, "I am the way!" He is like a strong hand that walks us straight to God.

Let's do it: Hold hands and walk across the room together saying, "Jesus is the way!"

Middles 8–10

Jesus did not just point to the way. He said He is the way. What is the difference?

Let's talk: When something feels confusing, how could holding onto Jesus help, even before you understand it all?

Older 11–14

Jesus claims to be the only way to the Father. That is a kind, urgent invitation. It is not a cruel door slammed shut.

Let's go deeper: Why is it actually loving for Jesus to tell us there is one sure way home, instead of leaving us to guess?

💬 Conversation Starter

Imagine you were lost in a giant forest. Would you rather have a hundred maps, or one trustworthy guide who knows the way out? Why?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

When someone says, "It's arrogant to claim Jesus is the only way," answer gently. It would be arrogant if a person invented the claim. But Jesus is the one who said it. He backed it up by rising from the dead. And He offers Himself freely to all. Think of a doctor who says, "This is the one cure." He is not being proud. He is being honest, because he wants you to live. We hold this truth with gentleness and respect (), never with a sneer.

For Dad · Go Deeper

is one of the great "I AM" sayings. It echoes the divine name God gave Moses (). When Jesus says "I am the way, the truth, and the life," He is quietly claiming deity and exclusivity in the same breath. We live in a culture that prizes "all paths lead up the mountain." So your children will feel the pressure to soften this. Don't teach them to be harsh. Teach them to be both humble and unmovable. The exclusivity of Christ is matched by the universality of His offer. The one way is wide open to anyone, anywhere, who comes. Help your kids memorize this verse not as a weapon, but as an anchor for their own hearts.

Let's Pray Together

"Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. Thank You for opening the way home to the Father for us. Help us hold Your hand. Help us never let go. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

I don't need every answer. I need Jesus, who is the way, the truth, and the life.
