Worthy of Worship
Month 4: Is Jesus Really God? · Family Worship
Today's Scripture
Read together: Revelation 22:8–9 & John 20:28
8 And I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had shown me these things. 9 But he said to me, “Do not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers the prophets, and with those who keep the words of this book. Worship God!” — Revelation 22:8–9
28 Thomas replied, “My Lord and my God!” — John 20:28
Memory Verse
““Truly, truly, I tell you,” Jesus declared, “before Abraham was born, I am!””— John 8:58 (BSB)memorize this week

Today's reading: Exodus 29–31
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 104 of 365 — God sets apart His priests and gives the gift of the Sabbath.)The Heart of It
We've spent two weeks asking, "Is Jesus really God?" And today, in family worship, we let the answer become worship. Look at our two verses side by side. In , the apostle John is so overwhelmed by what he sees that he falls down to worship the angel showing it to him. The angel stops him instantly. He says, "See that you do not do that… Worship God!" Good angels always refuse worship, because worship belongs to God alone. Now flip back to . Thomas falls before Jesus and cries, "My Lord and my God!" And Jesus does not stop him. He receives it. If Jesus were only a prophet or a great man, that would be the most shocking, wrong moment in the Bible. But it isn't wrong, because Jesus truly is God.
So here's where all the evidence has been leading. We studied Jesus' "I AM," His claims, the hope of the empty tomb, and Thomas's confession. We didn't do it just to win arguments or pass a quiz. We studied them so we could fall at His feet with joy and say, "My Lord and my God!" Believing the right things about Jesus is the beginning. Worshiping Him is the goal. And here's the wonderful thing about worship. It's not only for church on Sunday. We worship Jesus when we sing. We worship Him when we obey. We worship Him when we tell a friend the truth kindly, and when we trust Him on a hard day. Let's make our home a place where the King who is worthy of worship is loved, sung to, and followed.
Around the Table
Angels say, "Don't worship me. Worship God!" But Jesus let Thomas worship Him, because Jesus IS God!
Let's do it: Sing one praise song together. Then do your favorite worship motion. You can clap, jump, or put your hands up!
Why is it a big deal that the angel refused worship but Jesus accepted it? What does that prove about Jesus?
Let's talk: Besides singing, name three other ways we can worship Jesus this week.
The angel refused worship, but Jesus received it. That quiet contrast is a powerful sign of His deity. He accepts the worship that holy angels reject (; ).
Let's go deeper: If worshiping Jesus is the goal of all we've learned, what's one way your worship could become more wholehearted? Think about everyday life, not just church.

🛡️ Defending the Faith
Here's a simple, strong point you can share. Throughout the Bible, faithful angels refuse worship and send it to God alone (). Yet Jesus receives worship (). That only makes sense if He is God. Offer it warmly, "with gentleness and respect" (), as good news worth celebrating, not a debate to win.
For Dad · Go Deeper
Bring this two-week study home tonight by leading actual worship, not just discussion. Doctrine that never becomes doxology has missed its purpose. As the catechisms put it, our chief end is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. The argument from worship is theologically clean. Scripture is rigorously monotheistic, and angels deflect worship. Yet the New Testament writers, all devout Jews, worship Jesus without hesitation. That early, Jewish, worshipful response to Christ is itself powerful historical evidence for the Church's conviction that He is God. But your kids will remember the singing longer than the syllogism. Let them see Dad worship, with eyes closed, voice raised, and unembarrassed. A father who delights in Jesus is teaching his children something. He is teaching them that the answer to "Is Jesus really God?" is not merely "yes." It is "yes, so come and adore Him."

Let's Pray Together
"Father, You alone are worthy of worship. Jesus, You are God, and we worship You. We bow our hearts to You today. Make our home a worshiping home. We pray this in Jesus' name, amen."
Jesus receives the worship angels refuse. So I will gladly call Him my Lord and my God.
