⏱ ≈ 11 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Proverbs 12:22

22 Lying lips are detestable to the LORD, but those who deal faithfully are His delight.

Memory Verse

For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.2 Peter 1:21 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Mark 5-7

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Jesus heals, feeds thousands, and teaches what really makes a heart clean.)

The Heart of It

We've spent this week marveling that the Bible is true. Luke checked his facts. Peter was an eyewitness. And the Spirit moved the writers. Today the truth comes home to us. says, "Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight." God doesn't only tell the truth. He loves the truth. And He delights in people who tell it. If we believe a true Bible from a truthful God, then we are called to be truthful people. We can't defend a true Book while we're busy bending the truth at home.

This is the heart of being a young disciple ready to stand and be sent. Imagine someone says, "Why should I listen to you about Jesus when you fibbed to me yesterday?" Our honesty either opens doors or slams them shut. Telling the truth isn't always easy. Sometimes the truth means admitting we broke something. Sometimes it means admitting we were wrong, or that we're scared. But God delights in truth-tellers. A child who learns to be honest about small things grows into a teenager and an adult people can trust with big things. Luke was careful with the truth. The Holy Spirit guards the truth. By God's grace, we can be people of truth too.

Around the Table

Littles 5–8

God loves it when we tell the truth, and it makes Him sad when we lie. Even when it's hard, the truth is always best.

Let's do it: Practice a brave truth sentence: "I did it, and I'm sorry." Cheer for honesty!

Middles 9–11

Proverbs says God delights in truth-tellers. Why would lying make it harder to tell others about Jesus?

Let's talk: What's a time telling the truth was hard but turned out to be worth it?

Older 12–15

We can't believably defend a true Bible while living a double life. Integrity means being the same person in private and in public. That gives our witness weight. The world watches whether Christians actually live what they claim.

Let's go deeper: Where are you tempted to shade the truth? And how would real honesty change how others see Christ in you?

What's harder: telling the truth when you'll get in trouble, or telling the truth when no one would ever find out you lied? Why?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

The best argument for a true gospel is a truthful messenger. People won't trust our words about Jesus if our words can't be trusted at all. Living honestly is part of being "ready to give a defense" (). And it must be done "with gentleness and respect," not pride.

For Dad · Go Deeper

Apologetics is never just an intellectual exercise. It's deeply moral. Our children will be more persuaded by a father who lives the truth than by one who merely argues it. Proverbs ties God's own character to honesty. He "delights" in those who deal truthfully. That means our truth-telling is a way of reflecting Him. So watch the small things at home. Watch the exaggerated story, the "tell them I'm not here," the unkept promise. Kids notice the gap between what Dad defends on Sunday and how Dad deals on Tuesday. Closing that gap is one of the most powerful apologetics you'll ever offer. As Tony Evans often emphasizes, a man's credibility flows from a life that matches his words. Your integrity is the soil in which your children's faith takes root.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, You love the truth. You delight in people who tell it. Forgive us for the times we have not. Make our family honest, all the way through. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

A true gospel deserves a truthful messenger. God delights when I tell the truth.
