The Lamb of God

Month 4: Is Jesus Really God? · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 15 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Isaiah 53:4-7 & John 1:29

4 Surely He took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows; yet we considered Him stricken, struck down by God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. 6 We all like sheep have gone astray, each one has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid upon Him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so He did not open His mouth. — Isaiah 53:4-7
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! — John 1:29

Today's reading: Leviticus 13-15

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 111 of 365 — laws about cleansing that remind us how deeply we need to be made clean by God.)

The Heart of It

It's the end of our week. So let's gather everything we've learned into one beautiful picture. The picture is the Lamb. Isaiah said the Suffering Servant would be "led as a lamb to the slaughter." He would stay silent like a sheep before its shearers (). For hundreds of years, God's people had brought spotless lambs as sacrifices. A lamb would die in the place of the sinner. Every one of those lambs was a small arrow pointing forward. Each one asked, When will the real one come? Then one day John the Baptist saw Jesus walking toward him. He cried out, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (). The wait was over. The true Lamb had arrived.

This is why "Is Jesus really God?" matters so much. Maybe a mere man could die for one person. But this Lamb takes away the sin of the whole world. To do that, He had to be more than a man. He had to be God Himself, stepping into our place. didn't just predict a sad event. It predicted a rescue. And that rescue is offered to everyone who will receive it. As you worship together tonight, remember the gospel woven through this whole week. Jesus is the eternal Word. The prophets foretold Him. He was pierced and crushed for us. He was raised in joy. He is shared with the world. He is the Lamb of God. And He is worthy of all our praise.

Around the Table

Littles 5–8

Long ago, people brought lambs to say sorry for sin. But Jesus is the real Lamb! He takes away all our wrongs forever. He is the best Lamb of all.

Let's do it: Say "Baa!" then a big "Hooray for Jesus!" Draw a little lamb together and write "Jesus" on it.

Middles 9–11

All the lamb sacrifices were pointing ahead to Jesus, the perfect Lamb. He could take away the whole world's sin. He could do that because He's not just a man. He's God.

Let's talk: Why does Jesus have to be God to take away everyone's sin, and not just one person's?

Older 12–15

The sacrifices were a long object lesson. For hundreds of years, they prepared the world for "the Lamb of God." Jesus is both the spotless sacrifice and God in the flesh. That is the center of the Christian faith.

Let's go deeper: Trace this week's thread. We saw prophecy, the cross, the Spirit, and mission. How do they all point to Jesus being God?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Someone may ask why Christians say Jesus is the only way. You can answer warmly. Only One came as foretold. Only One lived sinless. Only One died as the Lamb for the whole world. And only One rose again. We don't claim Jesus is the way to be proud. We say it because no one else did what He did ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Family worship night is your chance to lift eyes from arguments to adoration. We've spent the week building a case. Tonight, behold the Lamb. Apologetics that never leads to worship has missed the point. The goal of every reason we give is a heart bowed before Christ. As you close the week, weave the threads together for your kids. The Lamb was foreshadowed in Leviticus, foretold in Isaiah, and fulfilled in Jesus. And He is offered freely to all the world. Hold the gospel out as an open invitation, not a closed verdict. Christ died for everyone, and everyone is welcome to come. Then lead your family further than just agreeing that Jesus is God. Lead them to worship Him as God. A father's awe is caught more than taught.

Let's Pray Together

"Jesus, You are the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. And that includes us. Thank You for all the ways the Bible points to You. We don't just believe You are God. We worship You as God. Help us carry Your good news to others. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

Behold the Lamb of God. Every sacrifice, every prophecy, and every promise was pointing to Jesus.
