True Witnesses In Our Home

Month 1: Why We Trust the Bible · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 14 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Luke 1:1-4

1 Many have undertaken to compose an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, 2 just as they were handed down to us by the initial eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3 Therefore, having carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

Memory Verse

For no such prophecy was ever brought forth by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.2 Peter 1:21 (BSB)memorize this week

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Mark 14-16

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (The cross, the empty tomb, and Jesus sending His friends out — the perfect end to Mark.)

The Heart of It

We're back where the week began, with Luke, the careful doctor who investigated everything so Theophilus could "know the certainty" of what he believed (). Today we gather it all up as a family. This week we learned that the Bible isn't make-believe. Luke checked the facts. Peter saw Jesus with his own eyes and would not deny Him. The Holy Spirit "moved" the writers like wind in a sail, and that same Spirit still helps us understand and points us to Jesus. We learned that a true gospel deserves truthful, honest messengers. And we learned that we share it best "with gentleness and respect," ready with reasons and gentle in tone.

Here's the beautiful part for your family. A home can be a place of true witnesses, just like the pages of Luke. When Mom and Dad treasure God's Word, when kids tell the truth even when it's hard, when we answer hard questions kindly instead of getting flustered, our whole house becomes living proof that we really believe what we read. Theophilus learned the truth because faithful people passed it on carefully. Now it's our turn. The faith was handed to us, and we get to hand it on. We pass it to each other, to friends, and to the next generation. Let's be a household that knows why we believe and shows it by how we live.

Around the Table

Littles 5–8

Our home can show people Jesus is real by how we love, tell the truth, and talk about Him! You can be a little witness.

Let's do it: Each person names ONE thing we learned about the Bible this week. Clap after each one!

Middles 9–11

A witness is someone who tells what they know is true. How can our family be true witnesses for Jesus to the people around us?

Let's talk: Recite the memory verse together from memory. What's one reason you trust the Bible now that you didn't before?

Older 12–15

The faith is handed down from one generation to the next through truthful witnesses people can trust (). You are now a link in that chain. How you live and answer questions either strengthens it or weakens it for those watching you.

Let's go deeper: Look back over this week. We saw Luke's research, Peter's eyewitness story, the Spirit's work, honesty, and gentleness. Which one do you most need to grow in?

If a new kid asked your family, "Why do you guys believe the Bible?" what would each person say in one sentence?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Our family's everyday life is part of our defense of the faith. People around us are reading us before they ever read a Bible. A home full of truth, kindness, and ready answers is one of the most convincing arguments there is. And we give those answers "with gentleness and respect" ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Family worship is where apologetics becomes generational. Luke's whole project assumed a chain of faithful handing-on. Eyewitnesses handed truth to careful writers, who handed it to Theophilus, and on it went to us. You stand in that line, and your dinner table is a link in it. Don't underestimate the slow, repeated rhythm of opening the Word together. Research consistently shows that the single biggest factor in kids keeping their faith into adulthood is not a perfect church program. It is ordinary, consistent, warm faith practiced at home by parents who clearly believe it themselves. This week wasn't just information. It was formation. Keep gathering them. Review the memory verse, celebrate honest answers, and welcome hard questions without panic. You are raising the next set of true witnesses. As Ken Ham puts it, the spiritual battle for the next generation is fought first and most powerfully in the home.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for Your Word. Make our home a place of truth and kindness. Help each of us know why we believe. Make us true witnesses who hand the faith on to others. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

Our home can be living proof the Bible is true. We show it by how we love, how we tell the truth, and Who we point to.
