📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Luke 5-8

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Jesus calls His first disciples and teaches the crowds.)

The Heart of It

King David loved God's Word. In he stacks up word after word to describe it. It is perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true (). Notice what David says each of these does for us. God's Word turns hearts toward God. It makes the simple wise. Even a child who doesn't know much can become wise by knowing what God says. The Bible isn't just true. It does something good in everyone who takes it in.

That word perfect means complete, with nothing missing and nothing broken. People's words are often half right. Or right today and wrong tomorrow. But God's Word is never wrong and never out of date. When we memorize a verse, we are tucking something perfect into our hearts. Then it is ready whenever we need it. It comforts us when we are sad. It guides us when we are unsure. And it reminds us who God is when we forget. Hidden in your heart, God's Word can never be taken away.

Around the Table

Littles 5–8

God's words are perfect. That means they are always right and never wrong. When we keep them in our hearts, they make us wise.

Let's do it: Say the memory verse together three times, getting a little louder each time, with a big smile on "perfect!"

Middles 9–11

David says God's Word makes "the simple" wise. Even kids can become wise by knowing it. That's a promise!

Let's talk: What is one wise thing the Bible has already taught you?

Older 12–15

calls Scripture perfect, sure, right, pure, clean, and true. And each word leads to a good result in us. God's Word is both flawless and useful.

Let's go deeper: Pick one word David uses ("sure," "right," "pure") and explain why a person could build their whole life on it.

💬 Conversation Starter

What is one thing you have memorized so well you'll never forget it? Maybe a song, a phone number, or a verse. God's Word is the best thing to keep in there forever!

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Some people think the Bible is just nice advice. But says it is perfect. It is complete and never wrong. When we know what God says, we can answer questions calmly and kindly, exactly as teaches, "with gentleness and respect."

For Dad · Go Deeper

Memorization is not a relic of Sunday school. It is a weapon for your children. The verses they hide now become the Spirit's "sword" later (). These are the words He brings to mind in a moment of temptation, doubt, or witness (). But the deeper aim of is transformation, not mere information. It speaks of "converting the soul." Don't let memory work become a performance you grade. Make it warm, repeated, and lived-in. Say verses in the car, at meals, and at bedtime, until they belong to the family the way a favorite story does. And memorize alongside your kids. A dad who is still hiding God's Word in his own heart is the most persuasive argument that it matters.
