📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)
Today's reading: Proverbs 11–13
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Proverbs keeps showing how the right words at the right time bring life — a gift the Holy Spirit loves to give.)The Heart of It
One of the biggest fears about telling others about Jesus is this: What if I don't know what to say? Jesus knew His followers would feel that. They would feel it especially when standing before people who might be unkind or powerful. So He gave them an amazing promise: "Do not worry about how or what you should answer... for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say." Think about that. God's own Spirit, the same One who inspired the whole Bible, promises to help you find the words right when you need them. You are not on your own.
This doesn't mean we get lazy and never learn anything. Jesus' followers knew their Scriptures well. It means we don't have to carry the pressure of being perfect or having every answer memorized before we ever open our mouths. We prepare and we depend on the Helper. When you whisper, "Holy Spirit, please give me the words," you're not saying a magic spell. You're trusting a real Person who lives in you and loves to help. Many believers have stood in a hard moment and felt empty. They prayed that simple prayer, and they watched the right words come. Telling the good news was never meant to be done in your own strength. It's a partnership with the Spirit.
Around the Table
Jesus said, "Don't worry about what to say — the Holy Spirit will help you!" We can always ask Him for the right words.
Let's do it: Whisper this little prayer together: "Holy Spirit, help me know what to say."
Have you ever frozen up and not known what to say? Jesus promised the Holy Spirit gives us words "in that very hour." How does that help you feel braver?
Let's talk: What's one thing about Jesus you already know well enough to share right now?
This is the Spirit-filled balance. We prepare by knowing Scripture and the gospel, and we depend on the Spirit to give us the words in the moment. We need both, not one or the other.
Let's go deeper: How is "the Spirit will give you words" different from "so I never have to study or get ready"?

🛡️ Defending the Faith
People sometimes say you must be a trained expert to talk about your faith. But Jesus promised the Holy Spirit helps ordinary believers find the right words (). You don't need a degree to share what Jesus has done for you. You need honesty and a willing heart.

Fear of "saying the wrong thing" silences more Christians than hostility ever does. is a deep comfort, but notice the setting. Jesus is speaking about pressure moments, even hostile ones. He's not excusing us from diligent preparation. He's relieving us of paralyzing anxiety. The Spirit-filled life holds these together. We stay serious about the truth and restful about our adequacy. For your kids, this dismantles the lie that evangelism is for "professionals." Teach them to do their part. Have them learn the gospel and hide Scripture in their hearts. Then teach them to lean on the Helper for the rest. And model dependence yourself. Let your children hear you pray before a hard conversation, "Lord, give me Your words." That simple, repeated habit trains them to walk in the Spirit rather than in self-reliance.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that we don't have to figure out everything alone. Holy Spirit, teach us what to say when we tell others about Jesus, and take away our fear. In Jesus' name, amen."
I don't have to have all the words. The Holy Spirit gives them when I need them.
