Daniel Excellent at Work
Month 11: Living It Out · Bible Story
Today's Scripture
Read together: Daniel 6:1-10
1 Now it pleased Darius to appoint 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom, 2 and over them three administrators, including Daniel, to whom these satraps were accountable so that the king would not suffer loss. 3 Soon, by his extraordinary spirit, Daniel distinguished himself among the administrators and satraps. So the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom. 4 Thus the administrators and satraps sought a charge against Daniel concerning the kingdom, but they could find no charge or corruption, because he was trustworthy, and no negligence or corruption was found in him. 5 Finally these men said, “We will never find any charge against this Daniel unless we find something against him concerning the law of his God.” 6 So the administrators and satraps went together to the king and said, “O King Darius, may you live forever! 7 All the royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers, and governors have agreed that the king should establish an ordinance and enforce a decree that for thirty days anyone who petitions any god or man except you, O king, will be thrown into the den of lions. 8 Therefore, O king, establish the decree and sign the document so that it cannot be changed—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.” 9 Therefore King Darius signed the written decree. 10 Now when Daniel learned that the document had been signed, he went into his house, where the windows of his upper room opened toward Jerusalem, and three times a day he got down on his knees, prayed, and gave thanks to his God, just as he had done before.

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)
Today's reading: Isaiah 46-48
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 301 of 365 — God carries His people and there is no other God like Him.)The Heart of It
Daniel was a foreigner. He worked for a king who did not worship the true God. And yet he did his job so well that everyone noticed. The Bible says "an excellent spirit was in him." The king even planned to put him in charge of the whole kingdom (). This made some other men jealous. They went hunting for dirt on Daniel so they could get him fired. But here is the amazing part. They could not find a single thing wrong. "They could find no charge or fault, because he was faithful" (v. 4). The only way they could trap him was to make a law against praying to God. They knew Daniel would never stop doing the right thing.
That is what "living it out" looks like. Daniel's faith was not just words at the temple. It showed up in his homework, his honesty, and his hard work. He worked hard even for a boss who did not share his beliefs. When the trap was set, Daniel kept praying with his windows open. He stayed calm and unashamed (v. 10). His good life was so bright that it pointed everyone toward his God. That is exactly what Jesus means in our memory verse. Other people cannot read our hearts. But they can see our good works. When we do everything well and honestly, even when no one praises us, our lives become a window. People can look through it and see God.
Around the Table
Daniel always did his work the right way, even when no one was looking. That made people want to know about his God!
Let's do it: Pick one chore today and do it your very best — then say, "I did that for God!"
Daniel's enemies could not find anything wrong because he was honest all the time. Doing good work is a quiet way to point people to Jesus.
Let's talk: Where could you "shine" with excellence this week — homework, a sport, helping at home?
Daniel served faithfully in a place that did not honor God. He never gave in and he never complained. His excellent, honest work made people trust him when he talked about God.
Let's go deeper: How can doing ordinary jobs really well open a door to talk about Jesus someday?

Have you ever noticed someone doing their job really well? Maybe a teacher, a coach, or a worker. How did it make you feel about that person?— Good work makes people pay attention.
🛡️ Defending the Faith
Sometimes people say, "Christians are no different from anyone else." A life like Daniel's is the kindest answer. He did quiet, excellent, honest work that nobody could poke a hole in. Remember . Our defense of the faith starts with a life so good that people want to ask us why.
For Dad · Go Deeper
Daniel's witness was not a sermon. It was a track record. He was dependable, ready to be promoted, and clean. His enemies had to invent a problem because they could not find a real one. Dad, your children are watching how you treat your boss, your clients, and the work no one will ever thank you for. A father who cuts corners at work but quotes Scripture at home hands his kids a faith that looks like a costume. But a father who does ordinary jobs with excellence "as to the Lord" () shows them something better. He shows them that the gospel reaches all the way down into Monday morning. Your honesty at work may preach louder to your kids than anything you say at the table tonight.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You for Daniel. He worked hard and stayed honest so people could see You. Give our family an excellent spirit too. Help our good works shine. Help them point others to You. In Jesus' name, amen."
People can't see my heart, but they can see my work. So I'll do it well and point them to God.
