📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)
Today's reading: Malachi 1-4
Reading the whole Bible in a year — the very last reading! (Day 365 of 365 — Malachi ends the Old Testament looking ahead, and Jesus is the answer to its hope. You finished the whole Bible — well done!)The Heart of It
You made it. Day 365. A whole year of meeting God together at this table. And today God closes the year the same way He closed His instructions to His people long ago. He closes it with a blessing. "The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace." This is the oldest blessing in the Bible. These are the words priests spoke over God's family for thousands of years. To have God's face "shine upon you" means He looks at you with delight. It's like a parent whose whole face lights up when their child walks into the room. That is how God sees a disciple who belongs to Jesus.
This whole year had one goal. It was to make disciples who can stand firmly and be sent boldly. We want to be ready to defend the faith with kindness and live on mission for Jesus. You've learned why we believe. You've learned how to answer hard questions gently. You've learned how to carry the good news wherever you go. Now you are sent. You don't go alone. You go blessed and kept. Remember this week's verse. "Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid... for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." That's the whole message of a sent life in one sentence. The devotional ends, but your discipleship doesn't. Go out blessed. Go out kept. Go out with the face of God shining over you. And shine His light into a world that needs Him.
Around the Table
God wants to bless you and keep you safe, and He smiles big when He looks at you! Now go and tell people how much Jesus loves them.
Let's do it: Have Dad lay a hand on each child's head and speak the blessing over them by name: "The Lord bless YOU and keep YOU!"
God's face "shining on you" means He looks at you with delight. We're sent out with His blessing on us.
Let's talk: Out of this whole year, what's the most important thing you'll carry with you into the world?
This ancient blessing puts God's name on His people. They belong to Him, and He sends them out as His own. You stand firm, and now you're sent.
Let's go deeper: You've been equipped this year to defend and share the faith. What's your first step in actually living sent this week?

If you could "bless" one person in your life this week with kind words and the truth about Jesus, who would it be? What would you say?
🛡️ Defending the Faith
You're finishing a whole year ready to give an answer. You can give it gently, confidently, and with love (). The best defense of the faith isn't only good arguments. It's a blessed, joyful, kind life that makes people curious about the God who shines His face on you. Now go and be that answer in the world.
For Dad · Go Deeper
Dad, you've reached the end. Well done, and don't underestimate what you've built. A year of faithful, ordinary family worship is one of the most powerful gifts a father can give. Notice the priestly shape of today's reading. In Christ, you are part of a "royal priesthood" (). One of a father's great privileges is to bless his children. You get to speak God's favor and name over them out loud. Make the spoken blessing a permanent fixture in your home long after this book is closed. Children who hear their father bless them by name carry that voice into adulthood. And let this be a beginning, not an ending. Keep talking of God's truth "when you sit... and when you walk by the way" (). You set out a year ago to raise disciples who can stand firm and be sent. You set out to raise children who know God, walk in the Spirit, defend the faith with grace, and live on mission. That work is never finished. It's handed on. Go in the grace of God, and lift up your face and bless your children today.

Let's Pray Together
"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace. Father, thank You for this whole year together. Send us out strong, courageous, and unafraid, knowing You are with us wherever we go. Make us disciples who stand firm and are gladly sent. In Jesus' name, amen."
I am blessed, I am kept, and I am sent. God's face shines on me wherever I go.
