A Book You Can Trust
Month 1: Why We Trust the Bible · Heart Matters
Today's Scripture
Read together: Psalm 19:7-11
7 The Law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is trustworthy, making wise the simple. 8 The precepts of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart; the commandments of the LORD are radiant, giving light to the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever; the judgments of the LORD are true, being altogether righteous. 10 They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the comb. 11 By them indeed Your servant is warned; in keeping them is great reward.
Memory Verse
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,”— 2 Timothy 3:16 (BSB)

Today's reading: Matthew 11-13
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Day 4 of 365 — Jesus tells parables about God's kingdom growing like seeds.)The Heart of It
We've talked about what the Bible is. It's God-breathed and Spirit-carried. Today King David tells us what the Bible does to the heart that trusts it. Look at the words he piles up. The law of the Lord is "perfect," "sure," "right," "pure," "clean," "true and righteous altogether." Then he tells us what those words accomplish. They convert the soul. They make the simple wise. They rejoice the heart. They enlighten the eyes. So the Bible isn't just true in a cold, fact-checking way. It's true in a way that heals you and grows you and makes you glad.
This is a heart matter, not just a head matter. You can know the Bible is reliable and still keep it at arm's length. But David says God's words are "more to be desired than gold" and "sweeter than honey." He didn't just believe the Bible was correct. He loved it. He longed for it. He treasured it like dessert. So here's the question for your heart today. Do you only think the Bible is true? Or do you actually want it? A book you truly trust is a book you'll actually open. When you let God's Word in, it doesn't just inform you. It reshapes you. It warns you away from harm. It rewards you with deep joy. That's why we can hand our whole lives to it without fear.
Around the Table
God's words are like the sweetest treat and the best instructions all at once. They are good for you and good-tasting too!
Let's do it: Taste something sweet, like a bit of honey or fruit. David said God's Word is even sweeter than that!
David didn't just believe the Bible was true. He loved it and wanted it. Knowing and loving are different.
Let's talk: What's something you know is good for you and you also enjoy? How could the Bible become like that?
says God's Word is sure and right and true. And it does something to us too. It converts us. It enlightens us. It brings us joy. Being reliable and being a delight belong together.
Let's go deeper: Why do you think a person can agree the Bible is true and still never read it? What changes that?

🛡️ Defending the Faith
The Bible's truthfulness isn't only about ancient facts being right. It's about a book that has changed billions of lives for the better. It has done that across every culture and every century. A tree is known by its fruit (). And this one keeps producing changed hearts. Share that gently, the way.
For Dad · Go Deeper
Apologetics can accidentally raise kids who defend a Bible they don't enjoy. They get orthodox heads over cold hearts. won't let us split those two things. David's confidence in Scripture overflows into delight. If your family devotions feel like a duty to grind through, your children will conclude the Bible is true but boring. That is a deadly combination. So model desire, not just discipline. Let them hear you say, "I needed that today," or "This part is so good." Trust grows in the soil of love. The most persuasive apologetic in your home is a dad who genuinely treasures the Book he's defending.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, Your words are perfect and sweeter than honey. Don't let us just believe the Bible is true. Help us truly love it and want it. Give us hearts that delight in You. In Jesus' name, amen."
A book I really trust is a book I'll actually open. And God's Word is worth opening every day.
