Jesus Holds It All Together
Month 3: Creation & Science · Family Worship
Today's Scripture
Read together: Colossians 1:16–17 & Hebrews 1:3
16 For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. 17 He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together. — Colossians 1:16–17
3 The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high. — Hebrews 1:3
Memory Verse
“For in Him all things were created, things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities. All things were created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”— Colossians 1:16–17 (BSB)

Today's reading: Genesis 1–4
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 81 of 365 — back to the beginning: "In the beginning God created…")The Heart of It
Today we pull the whole week together and turn it into worship. We've seen the Flood, the rainbow promise, fossils that fit God's Word, Noah's bold preaching, and the open door of the ark. And running underneath all of it is one glorious truth from our memory verse. Jesus made everything. Everything was made for Him. And "in Him all things consist." says it again. He is "upholding all things by the word of His power." Picture that. The sun keeps shining. Your heart keeps its steady beat. Gravity holds your feet to the floor, and the planets keep their paths. And the reason for all of it is that the Lord Jesus is speaking it into staying together this very moment. He isn't a faraway God who started the world and lost interest. He is near and awake, personally keeping the universe running. And at the same time He knows your name and counts the hairs on your head ().
That is reason to worship. When you really see that the Maker and Sustainer of galaxies is the same Jesus who loves you enough to die for you, your heart wants to sing. This is also where our whole week of "defending the faith" finds its purpose. We don't learn good answers just to win arguments. We learn them so we can know and love and worship the One who is true, and gently invite others to do the same. Tonight, as a family, let's not just talk about Jesus the Creator. Let's praise Him. Sing a song together. Name things you're amazed by. Thank Him out loud. The right answer to "Jesus holds it all together" is not just "interesting." It's "Worthy! Worthy is the One who made it all and holds it all and saved me!"
Around the Table
Jesus made everything, and He keeps it all together right now. He keeps the sun, the stars, even your heartbeat! That makes Him worth singing to.
Let's do it: Sing your favorite worship song together, then shout, "Thank You, Jesus, for holding it all together!"
The Bible says Jesus is upholding all things by the word of His power. That means He is keeping the universe running this very second. Worship is how our hearts say "thank You" for that.
Let's talk: What's one thing about creation that makes you want to praise God? Tell Him out loud right now.
This week we learned answers. Tonight we turn those answers into worship. Knowing God should lead us to adore Him, and then to tell others about Him.
Let's go deeper: Take turns finishing this sentence as a prayer of praise: "Jesus, because You hold all things together, I trust You with…"

If the whole family made up a quick praise song about Jesus the Creator, what would the first line be? Try singing it together. It counts as worship!
🛡️ Defending the Faith
Even our reasons and arguments are meant to lead to worship. begins, "sanctify the Lord God in your hearts." That comes before it says to be ready to give an answer. We defend the faith because we treasure the One we're defending, "with gentleness and respect."
For Dad · Go Deeper
Family worship is the goal toward which all apologetics aims. If our children win debates but never bow, we have failed them. Notice that is the theme verse of this whole volume. It grounds our readiness to answer in worship: "sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready." Adoration first, argument second. As the spiritual head of your home, the most powerful thing you can do tonight is let your kids see you worship. Sing even if you're off-key. Praise aloud. Be visibly moved that the Sustainer of the cosmos is your Savior. Keep it warm and unhurried, never performative. Let this week land not as a stack of facts to defend, but as a Person to love and a Lord to follow. The home that worships together raises children who stand and are sent from a full heart, not from a defensive crouch.

Let's Pray Together
"Lord Jesus, You made all things. You hold all things together, even our family. We worship You! Thank You for saving us. Thank You for being near to us. Turn what we know about You into real love for You. And help us love others too. We praise You. In Jesus' name, amen."
Jesus holds the whole universe together. The same hands that hold the stars hold me. So I will worship Him.
