God Made It All

Month 1: In the Beginning — Knowing God · Bible Story

⏱ ≈ 12 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Genesis 1:1–5, 31

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good, and He separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day. … 31 And God looked upon all that He had made, and indeed, it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.

Today's reading: Genesis 1–3

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Day 1 of 365 — the very beginning of the story.)

The Heart of It

Before anything existed, there was God. No light yet. No time yet. No you yet. Just God, full of joy and complete in Himself. He did not need to make the world. He chose to, because He is so good. With just His word, He called light, sky, sea, and living things into being. On the sixth day He made people in His own image. Six days of work, then one day of rest (). When He finished, He looked at all of it and said it was "very good."

That very first verse answers the biggest question a heart can ask. Where did everything come from? Not chance. Not a big mess. It came from a Person. And if God made everything, then everything belongs to Him. That includes us. We are not accidents. We were made on purpose, by a good Maker who wanted us. To know God rightly, we begin right here. He is the Creator. We are His creation. And that is a joyful, restful place to stand.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

Who made the sky, the puppies, and YOU? God did! And He made it all good.

Let's do it: Go point at three things God made and cheer, "God made that!"

Middles 7–9

God made everything out of nothing. He just spoke, and it was there. What does that show us about how great He is?

Let's talk: If God made it all, who does it belong to?

Older 10–13

God created in six real days and rested on the seventh (). He is the Maker. We are the ones He made.

Let's go deeper: You were made on purpose. How does knowing that change the way you see yourself?

If you could invent a brand-new animal, what would it look like? And remember, God dreamed up every real animal on purpose!

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Everything that has a beginning needs something to start it. The universe had a beginning. The Bible says so, and the world around us points that way too. So it had a Maker. And we know who began it. It was God (). Made-things always point to a Maker.

For Dad · Go Deeper

Creation is not just about where things came from. It is the foundation of worship and identity. "It is He who made us, and we are His" (). A home that treats Genesis as real history hands its kids a fixed point. Everything else in life can turn on it. Settle this in your own heart first. You are not self-made. The pressure to perform eases when you remember the truth. You are a creature loved by your Maker, not a project you have to manage. So lead your family from rest, not from striving.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for making everything. And thank You for making our family on purpose. Help us know You, our good Maker, and love what You love. In Jesus' name, amen."
