The Heart of It

We've spent a whole month learning about the Holy Spirit, so tonight we get to look back together. It's a happy night. Remember the start? Jesus promised a Helper to be with us forever (). Then the Spirit came at Pentecost like wind and fire, and frightened followers became bold witnesses (). We learned that the Spirit grows real fruit in us, like love, joy, peace, and patience (). And He hands out gifts "to each one for the profit of all" (). One Spirit, one big family, all of it from God. Tonight Paul ties it into one short sentence to carry forever. He says, "If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit."

Notice the two halves. Living in the Spirit is what God did for us. When we trusted Jesus, the Spirit came to live inside us and made us alive. That's a gift, not a reward. We didn't earn it. But walking in the Spirit is what we get to do each day in response. We take real steps. We choose to obey. We ask Him for help with our actual lives. We ask Him to help with our chores, our tempers, and our brothers and sisters. "Walk" is a slow, ordinary word. It's not a one-time leap. It's putting one foot in front of the other with the Spirit, all day long. That's the whole Spirit-filled life in a nutshell. He gives us new life. Then we get to step out and live it with Him, on purpose, today.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

The Holy Spirit is God's Helper in our hearts. We can walk and talk with Him all day!

Let's do it: March in place together saying, "I'll walk with the Spirit — step, step, step!"

Middles 7–9

"Walking" means taking real steps every day with the Spirit's help, not just one big moment.

Let's talk: What is one step you can take tomorrow where you'll ask the Spirit to help you?

Older 10–13

"Live" is God's gift to us. "Walk" is our daily response of obedience that flows from being loved.

Let's go deeper: Look back over this month. Where have you seen the Spirit actually changing you?

What was your favorite thing we learned about the Holy Spirit this month? And why?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

How do we know the Holy Spirit is real and not just a nice idea? Because He leaves evidence we can see. He leaves changed lives. The same fearful disciples who hid () became bold enough to die for Jesus after Pentecost. And we still watch the Spirit grow love and courage in ordinary people today ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Tonight is a worship-and-review night, so resist the urge to add new content. Instead, celebrate what God has done. Pentecostal teaching rightly draws a line between two works of the Spirit. First, He makes us alive, so we "live in the Spirit." Second, He keeps empowering the daily walk. Both matter, and grace anchors both. The indicative, "you live," always comes first and fuels the imperative, "now walk." If your family hears only the imperative, you'll raise tired performers. If they hear only the indicative, you'll raise passive consumers. Hold them together the way Paul does. So tonight, lead a short act of remembrance. Name two or three specific ways you've watched the Spirit work in your home this month, and thank Him out loud. Gratitude is the soil the next month of obedience grows from.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for Your Spirit who made us alive and lives with us forever. Help our family walk with You, step by step, every single day. We love You. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

God's Spirit made me alive. Now I get to walk with Him, one step at a time, today.
