Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 120 of 365 — psalms that ask God to show us His ways.)

The Heart of It

Today we close the month on the Holy Spirit. And the Bible gives us a wonderful word to carry into all the days ahead. The word is led. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God" (). Think of a shepherd walking ahead of his sheep. Or think of a good father holding a small hand to cross a busy street. The Spirit doesn't shove us or drag us. He leads. Jesus said the same thing the night before He died. He said, "When He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth" (). Being God's child means we never have to figure out life alone. We have a Guide who lives inside us and knows exactly the way.

So how does the Spirit lead us? Mostly through God's Word. And through gentle nudges in our hearts that always agree with the Bible, never against it. He reminds us of what Jesus said. He gives peace when we're heading the right way. And He stirs us up to do good and tell others about Jesus. Look ahead with me. Next month we'll start following Jesus closely through His life and teaching. The Spirit is the One who makes following Him possible. We follow Jesus by the power of the Spirit. So tonight we don't just say goodbye to a month. We step forward holding the hand of our Guide. We're ready for whatever comes next, and we're sure that the One who leads us is good.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

The Holy Spirit is like a good shepherd who shows us the way to go. We just follow!

Let's do it: Play follow-the-leader for one minute, then say, "The Spirit leads me; I follow!"

Middles 7–9

The Spirit leads us mostly through the Bible and gentle nudges that always match what God already said.

Let's talk: How can we check that a "good idea" really matches what the Bible says?

Older 10–13

Being "led by the Spirit" is the mark of God's children — and it's how we'll follow Jesus closely in the days ahead.

Let's go deeper: What is one area of your life where you most want the Spirit's guidance right now?

If you were leading our family on a hike, how would you make sure no one got lost? That's a little picture of how the Spirit leads us.

🛡️ Defending the Faith

How do we know the Spirit's leading isn't just our own feelings? Because the Spirit of truth never contradicts the Word He inspired (; ). We test every nudge against Scripture. If it disagrees with the Bible, it isn't from God. That keeps us both confident and humble ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

frames Spirit-leading not as a mystical adventure but as the ordinary family resemblance of God's children. His sons and daughters are habitually moved by their Father's Spirit toward holiness, mission, and love. As you finish this month and turn toward following Jesus, give your kids a sane, biblical grid for guidance. That way they're neither cynical, thinking "God never speaks," nor reckless, saying "I just felt led." The Spirit's leading is steady, Word-saturated, and Christ-exalting. It confirms the Scriptures. It never competes with them. Model this out loud. Let them hear you say, "I think the Lord is prompting me to do this, and it lines up with what He's already told us." That kind of audible, tested dependence is one of the most formative things a father can hand the next generation.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for giving us Your Spirit to lead us like a good Shepherd. Guide our family into Your truth. Help us follow Jesus closely every day. We trust You. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

I am God's child, and His Spirit goes ahead of me. I never have to find the way alone.
