Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 35 of 365 — God leads and provides for His people in the wilderness.)

The Heart of It

God told Abram to go "to the land I will show you" (). Abram didn't get the whole map at once. He got a God who would lead him there one step at a time. That's a beautiful picture of how God still guides His people today. In the New Testament we learn that God doesn't just point the way from far off. He comes to live inside us by His Holy Spirit, and He leads us personally: "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God" (). Abram had to listen and follow. We get something even greater. The Leader Himself lives in our hearts.

How does the Spirit lead? Gently and faithfully. He leads us through God's Word, lighting up what's true and nudging our hearts. He leads us through a quiet sense of peace, or of unrest. He grows us to be more like Jesus. And He gives us courage to take the next step of obedience. The Spirit-led life isn't about flashy directions in the sky. It's about walking closely with a real Person who knows the way home. Abram trusted God for the next step without seeing the whole journey. In the same way, we learn to walk with the Spirit, trusting Him to show us our path as we go.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

God's Holy Spirit lives in His people. He helps us know which way to go, like a kind guide.

Let's do it: Let one person be the "guide" and lead the family on a little walk through the house, one step at a time.

Middles 7–9

Abram followed God one step at a time. The Holy Spirit leads us that same way today.

Let's talk: Where does the Holy Spirit mostly speak to us? Here's a hint: open a Bible!

Older 10–13

Being "led by the Spirit" is the mark of God's children. He guides us through the Word, through peace, and through our hearts. And He never leads us against Scripture ().

Let's go deeper: How can you tell the difference between the Spirit's leading and just wanting your own way?

💬 Conversation Starter

Have you ever followed directions one step at a time, not knowing the whole route? How is that like trusting God?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Is the Holy Spirit just a feeling or a "force"? No. The Bible shows the Spirit as a Person. He teaches. He can be grieved. He speaks (; ). Only a person can do those things. The Spirit is God Himself, with us.

For Dad · Go Deeper

Classic Pentecostal teaching holds that the Spirit lives in every believer and also wants to actively lead us. This leading is real, personal, and available to your family. But discernment matters. The Spirit never contradicts the Scripture He inspired. So the surest path to Spirit-led living is a home soaked in God's Word, not chasing after impressions. Teach your children that "led by the Spirit" means walking in step with God's revealed truth while staying tender to His promptings. It's character over hype, always. And model it. Let them see you pause, pray, and seek the Lord on real decisions. Children learn to depend on the Spirit far more by watching a dependent father than by hearing a lecture about it.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to lead us. Teach us to listen for You. Help us love Your Word. And help us follow You one step at a time. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

I don't need the whole map. I have the Spirit, who leads me one step at a time.
