📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Exodus 19–21

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 36 of 365 — God gives His law to bless and shape His people.)

The Heart of It

We've been living in God's promise to Abram all week. Today we land on its surprising goal. God said, "I will bless you... so that you will be a blessing... and all the families of the earth will be blessed through you" (). Read that last line slowly. God's blessing was never meant to stop with Abram and stay locked up in his tent. It was meant to flow. It would flow through his family, out to the nations, all the way down to us. God blesses His people so that His people will bless the world. That is the great purpose threaded through the whole Bible. And it finds its center in Jesus. He is the descendant of Abraham, and in Him every nation is truly blessed.

This shapes how our family loves people. We have been richly blessed. We have God's love, His Word, His Spirit, a home, and daily bread. None of that is just for us to enjoy and hoard. Paul writes, "As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to the family of faith" (). Being a blessing isn't complicated. It means noticing who's near and doing good with what God has put in your hands. A kind word to the lonely kid. Sharing your snack. Helping without being asked. When we bless others, we're living out the very purpose God gave Abram thousands of years ago.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

God fills us up with good things so we can share them and make others happy!

Let's do it: Find one toy, snack, or hug to share with someone in the family right now.

Middles 7–9

God blessed Abram so the blessing could flow to others. We're meant to pass it on too.

Let's talk: Who is someone outside our family we could bless this week? And how could we do it?

Older 10–13

"All the families of the earth will be blessed through you." That points straight to Jesus and the worldwide gospel ().

Let's go deeper: You are "blessed to be a blessing." How should remembering that change the way you spend your time, your money, or your talents?

What's the best thing someone ever did to bless you? Could you do something like it for someone else this week?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

How do we know God really meant to bless "all the families of the earth"? History shows it. From one small family in Genesis came the Scriptures, the Messiah, and a gospel that has reached every continent. The promise is still coming true before our eyes.

For Dad · Go Deeper

"Blessed to be a blessing" cuts against a quiet danger in comfortable homes. That danger is treating God's gifts as private property. A discipling father teaches his children that everything they have is on loan from God, not owned. And it's given partly for the good of others. The most powerful way to teach this is to practice generosity together and out loud. Let your kids help choose who to bless. Let them watch you give cheerfully. Let them feel the joy of it. Tony Evans calls the family "God's primary mechanism" for passing faith and blessing to the next generation and the watching world. Your home isn't just a refuge from culture. It's a launching pad for love.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for blessing our family so richly. Help us not to keep it all to ourselves. Help us do good to everyone You put in our path. May the world see Your goodness through us. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

God blessed me to be a blessing. His goodness is meant to flow through me to others.
