⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Exodus 15:1-2, 11

1 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted. The horse and rider He has thrown into the sea. 2 The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father’s God, and I will exalt Him. … 11 Who among the gods is like You, O LORD? Who is like You—majestic in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?

Memory Verse

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”Exodus 14:14 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Deuteronomy 32–34

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 81 of 365 — Moses' final song and his death on Mount Nebo.)

The Heart of It

The moment they reached the far shore, dripping and safe, Israel did the most natural thing in the world for a rescued people. They sang. "I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted… The LORD is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation" (). This is the very first song in the Bible. And it isn't about how brave Israel was. Every line is about what God did. Worship is simply the rescued telling the truth about their Rescuer. When God's goodness sinks past your head into your heart, it comes back out as a song.

Then comes the question that crowns the whole rescue. "Who among the gods is like You, O LORD? Who is like You — majestic in holiness, revered with praises, performing wonders?" (). Egypt had dozens of so-called gods. But none of them parted a sea or saved a slave. None are like the LORD. That is the heartbeat of family worship. We are not performing for God. We are standing amazed at Him until we sing. And our song is even bigger than Israel's. shows the redeemed in heaven singing "the song of Moses… and the song of the Lamb." Our rescue from Egypt and our rescue from sin join in one anthem. Tonight your family gets to do on earth what the saved will do forever.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

When God saves us, we get to sing to Him! Nobody is as great and good as God.

Let's do it: Sing your favorite worship song together — clap, dance, be loud!

Middles 7–9

Israel's song was all about what God did, not what they did. What has God done that makes you want to thank Him?

Let's talk: Make up one line of a "rescue song" together right now.

Older 10–13

"Who is like You?" Every other god is a copy or a fake. What makes the LORD truly one of a kind?

Let's go deeper: The redeemed sing the song of Moses and the song of the Lamb (). How is the cross our Red Sea?

For Dad · Go Deeper

Worship is the goal of the whole rescue. God didn't free Israel just to be free. He freed them to be His worshipers ("Let My people go, that they may serve Me," ). The same is true for your family. Salvation aims at song. Don't leave this to Sunday only. A father who sings, even off-key, gives his children permission to delight in God without embarrassment. In classic Pentecostal life, Spirit-filled worship is heartfelt and free. But it stays God-centered and grounded in His truth. It is never hype for its own sake. Make praise a normal sound in your home this week. Few things shape a child's theology more deeply than the songs they grow up singing about their Rescuer.
