Month 4: Is Jesus Really God? · Loving Others

⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Matthew 28:18-20

18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Memory Verse

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Numbers 5-8

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 117 of 365 — the Aaronic blessing: "The LORD bless you and keep you.")

The Heart of It

After Jesus rose, He gathered His followers on a mountain. He gave them what we call the Great Commission. "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them... teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you" (). He begins with His authority. He says, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth." He ends with His presence. He says, "I am with you always, even to the end of the age." In between is our job. We go and tell. The best news in the world was never meant to be kept. It's meant to be shared. It's like when you can't help telling a friend about something wonderful.

Here's the beautiful part. This is one of the kindest things we can ever do for another person. Telling someone about Jesus isn't pushy or rude when it comes from love. It's like handing a thirsty person cold water. It's like showing a lost traveler the way home. Christ died for all people. So everyone we meet is someone Jesus loves and wants to rescue. Loving others well means more than caring about their lunch and their bruised knees. It means caring about whether they know the Savior. We share gently. We never force. We trust God to do the work in their hearts. But we do tell, because love always wants the best for others.

Around the Table

Littles 5-8

Jesus said, "Go and tell everyone the good news about Me!" It's the best news in the whole world to share.

Let's do it: Cup your hands around your mouth and "shout" quietly, "Jesus loves you and is alive!" Now think of one person to tell this week.

Middles 9-11

Sharing Jesus is a loving thing to do. It's like giving a great gift. We tell kindly and let God change hearts.

Let's talk: What's the difference between forcing someone to believe and lovingly telling them the good news?

Older 12-15

The Great Commission is for every believer, not just pastors and missionaries. Jesus pairs the command, "go," with a promise, "I am with you always."

Let's go deeper: Who is one friend you could pray for this month? How could you find a natural, kind way to share Jesus with them?

What's the best news you ever got that you couldn't wait to tell someone? The news that Jesus is alive is even better. And it's for everyone!

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Sharing your faith isn't about winning arguments. It's about loving people enough to tell them the truth. We give a reason for our hope "with gentleness and respect" (). We stay gentle and respectful. And we trust God with the results. Kindness opens doors that pushiness slams shut.

For Dad · Go Deeper

The Great Commission frames every part of our discipleship at home. We are raising children not merely to hold the faith but to hand it on. Because Christ died for all, evangelism is the most loving thing your family can do for a neighbor. It's never a sales pitch. It's never coercion. It's always an offer extended in love and respect. Model this where your kids can see it. Speak warmly of Jesus to the cashier. Pray for the lost by name at dinner. Look for ordinary, gentle openings. Your children will learn that witness is normal Christian life mostly by watching you live it. Lead with both courage and gentleness.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for the good news of Jesus. Help our family love people enough to tell them. Help us do it gently and bravely. Give us eyes to see who needs to hear. We trust You to change hearts. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

Telling others about Jesus is one of the most loving things I can ever do.
