He Is Risen Indeed

Month 4: Is Jesus Really God? · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 15 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Luke 24:36-49

36 While they were describing these events, Jesus Himself stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 37 But they were startled and frightened, thinking they had seen a spirit. 38 “Why are you troubled,” Jesus asked, “and why do doubts arise in your hearts? 39 Look at My hands and My feet. It is I Myself. Touch Me and see—for a spirit does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” 40 And when He had said this, He showed them His hands and feet. 41 While they were still in disbelief because of their joy and amazement, He asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 So they gave Him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and He took it and ate it in front of them. 44 Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. 46 And He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and in His name repentance and forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 And behold, I am sending the promise of My Father upon you. But remain in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”

Memory Verse

For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,1 Corinthians 15:3-4 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Numbers 9-12

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 118 of 365 — the cloud and fire lead God's people onward.)

The Heart of It

On Easter evening the disciples were huddled together. They were talking about the strange reports of an empty tomb. Suddenly Jesus Himself stood among them and said, "Peace to you" (). They were terrified! They thought they were seeing a ghost. So Jesus did something wonderfully down-to-earth. "Behold My hands and My feet," He said. "Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have" (). Then He asked for something to eat. And He ate a piece of fish right in front of them. This was no ghost. This was no vision. This was no wishful dream. It was Jesus, raised in a real, glorified body, alive forevermore.

As we close this month, gather your family and let the wonder land. Jesus is God, and He is alive. The whole month built to this. The Word who was God became flesh. He claimed to be the great I AM. The prophets foretold His suffering centuries ahead. He died for our sins. He rose bodily on the third day, with hundreds of witnesses. And then He opened His friends' minds to understand the Scriptures. He sent them out as witnesses, clothed with power from on high. That same Jesus is with your family right now. The proper response to an empty tomb is not just to believe it's true. It's to worship Him, follow Him, and tell others, "He is risen indeed!"

Around the Table

Littles 5-8

Jesus came to His friends and let them touch His hands. He even ate fish! He was really, truly alive.

Let's do it: Have a family cheer. One person shouts, "He is risen!" and everyone answers, "He is risen indeed!"

Middles 9-11

Jesus proved He wasn't a ghost by showing His wounds and eating food. His resurrection was physical and real.

Let's talk: This month we learned that Jesus is God and that He rose from the dead. What was the most amazing thing you learned?

Older 12-15

Jesus deliberately gave physical, testable proof. He showed wounds to touch. He ate food in front of them. Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures and sent them out as witnesses.

Let's go deeper: If Jesus really is the risen God, what does that mean for how you'll live and what you'll say to others this week?

💬 Conversation Starter

If you got to ask the risen Jesus one question, face to face, what would you ask Him?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Jesus offered evidence on purpose. He gave them wounds to handle. He let them watch Him eat fish. He answered the very doubt His friends felt. We never have to be afraid of honest questions about our faith. We can welcome them. We can answer "with gentleness and respect" (), confident that the truth holds up.

For Dad · Go Deeper

This family-worship day is a capstone. Pull the threads of the whole month together out loud, because your children remember what you celebrate. Jesus' bodily resurrection is the hinge on which the entire Christian faith turns. It vindicates His claim to deity. It confirms our sins are paid for. And it guarantees our own future resurrection. Make this evening warm and unhurried. Read the passage. Let each person name one thing they learned about who Jesus is. Sing or play a song about the risen Lord. And pray together. A father who treats the resurrection as the most thrilling fact in the universe raises children who do too. He is risen indeed.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, we worship You! Jesus is God, and Jesus is alive! Thank You for proving it so clearly. Fill us with joy. Make us bold witnesses. Help us follow the risen Lord all our days. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

Jesus is God, and Jesus is alive. He is risen indeed!
