Sent Out by the King

Month 10: Telling the Good News · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 14 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: John 20:21

21 Again Jesus said to them, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so also I am sending you.”

Memory Verse

How then can they call on the One in whom they have not believed? And how can they believe in the One of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone to preach? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”Romans 10:14-15 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Isaiah 37-39

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 298 of 365 — King Hezekiah prays, and God rescues His people.)

The Heart of It

It was the evening of the very first Easter. Jesus appeared to His frightened disciples behind locked doors. And He said something that still echoes today: "As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" (). Think about that. The Father sent Jesus on the most important mission in history. He came to seek and save the lost. And now the risen Jesus turns to ordinary people and says, I'm sending you the same way. We aren't volunteers who signed up. We are sent ones, given a mission by the King Himself. Our whole week comes together right here. The gospel is true, because we have eyewitnesses. The lost are loved, because the Shepherd searches for them. The Spirit gives boldness. And the King says, "Go."

This is a Family Worship day, so it's a chance to look back and ask what God has been teaching your family this week. We learned that someone must be sent to tell. We learned that beautiful feet carry good news. We learned that the resurrection rests on real witnesses, that God's heart breaks for the lost, and that the Holy Spirit gives courage. And we learned that a simple "come and see" can change a life. Being "sent" doesn't usually mean moving across the world. Though for some people it will! Mostly it means living every ordinary day as someone Jesus has placed on purpose. You do it at school, in your neighborhood, and with your family, with good news to share. You are not stuck where you are by accident. You are sent there by the King.

Around the Table

Littles 5-8

Jesus said, "I am sending you!" That means He has a job for you — to share His love wherever you go.

Let's do it: March in place and chant, "Jesus sends me! Jesus sends me!"

Middles 9-11

Being "sent" means Jesus put you where you are on purpose, with good news to share.

Let's talk: Where has Jesus "sent" you right now — what places do you go each week?

Older 12-15

Jesus sends us "as the Father has sent Me" — same authority, same mission, same dependence on the Spirit.

Let's go deeper: What's one thing from this week you want to actually start doing as a "sent one"?

Family challenge: Each person names one place they'll go this week and one small way they could shine for Jesus there. Pick a day to check in on how it went!

🛡️ Defending the Faith

Christianity isn't a private club to hide inside. It's a sent people with good news for everyone. That's why we engage the world kindly instead of retreating from it. Being "ready to give a defense" () is simply part of being sent. We go toward people's questions, gently and gladly, not away from them.

For Dad · Go Deeper

"As the Father has sent Me, I also send you" places our small acts of witness inside the grand sweep of God's mission. This is the missio Dei, God's own sending heart, now flowing through ordinary families. As you close this week of family worship, resist the urge to turn "be sent" into pressure or guilt for your kids. Sending is an honor, not a burden. It means the King trusts His people. Cast vision for your home as a sent family. It is not a fortress where you huddle away from the world. It is an embassy of the King in your neighborhood, school, and workplace. Pray over each child by name as someone Jesus is sending. And lead by going first. Your kids will believe they are sent when they watch their father live like a man on mission.

Let's Pray Together

"Risen Jesus, thank You for sending us, just as the Father sent You. Make our family Your sent ones. Help us share Your good news at home, at school, and everywhere we go. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

I am not where I am by accident. The King has sent me here on purpose.
