Every Job Can Honor God

Month 11: Living It Out · Why We Believe

⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: 1 Corinthians 10:31

31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all to the glory of God.

Memory Verse

Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being, as for the Lord and not for men, because you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as your reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.Colossians 3:23-24 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Jeremiah 9-12

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 310 of 365 — "Let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me.")

The Heart of It

Here is one of the shortest, biggest verses in the whole Bible. "Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God" (). Stop and notice what it includes. Eating and drinking! If even munching a sandwich can be done for God's glory, then so can absolutely anything else. There is no list of "holy jobs" that count and "ordinary jobs" that don't. A pastor preaching. A nurse caring for patients. A farmer growing food. A kid practicing piano. A mom folding laundry. All of it can shine with God's glory when it's done with thankfulness and love. The Bible never splits life into a "Sunday part" and a "regular part."

This is one of the most beautiful and sensible truths Christians believe. Think about it. God made the whole world (). So there is no corner of life that is outside His care or off-limits to His glory. That's why a Christian can be the best teammate, the kindest cashier, the most honest student. Not to show off, but because every single thing we do is a chance to make God look as good as He really is. People are watching. A life lived "to the glory of God" is one of the strongest reasons others have to take Jesus seriously. Your everyday faithfulness is a quiet sermon nobody can argue with.

Around the Table

Littles 5–8

You can give God glory while you EAT and DRINK and play! That means everything you do can make God smile.

Let's do it: At your next snack, pause and say, "I eat this for Your glory, God!" Then enjoy it with a thankful heart.

Middles 9–11

"For the glory of God" means doing things in a way that makes God look good to the people around you. There are no "too small" jobs.

Let's talk: What's a job people might think is "not important" that could actually bring God great glory?

Older 12–15

The Bible refuses to divide life into "sacred" and "secular." If God made all of life, all of life can be worship ().

Let's go deeper: How does it change your view of a future career to know that any honest job — not just being a missionary or pastor — can fully glorify God?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

When someone says, "Religion is fine for church, but keep it out of real life like work," you can kindly answer: "Actually, my faith makes me better at real life. The Bible says, 'whatever you do, do all to the glory of God' (). So it makes me want to be honest, hardworking, and kind everywhere, including at work." That's not pushy. It just shows that faith isn't a hobby you set aside. It is the very thing that makes a Christian a trustworthy worker and friend. Say it with gentleness and respect (), and then back it up by being that person.

For Dad · Go Deeper

The "sacred/secular split" is one of the quiet lies the modern world hands our kids. It says ministry and missions are "spiritual" while accounting, plumbing, and parenting are just "stuff you do." Scripture demolishes that. The doctrine here is the lordship of Christ over all of life. The Reformers called it "vocation." It is the idea that God calls people into ordinary work as a holy assignment, not a distraction from holy things. Help your children grasp early that they don't have to become pastors to live "full-time for God." They already are full-time if Christ is Lord of all they do. Model it. Let them see you pray over your work, do it with integrity, and refuse the temptation to leave God at the office door. A dad who treats his daily labor as worship raises kids who can serve God anywhere life sends them.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You that no part of our lives is too small to give You glory. Whether we eat, drink, study, or work, help us do it all for You. Make our everyday lives shine. Let people see how good You are. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

There is no "ordinary" in God's world. Even eating and drinking can be done for His glory.
