⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: 2 Timothy 2:1-2

1 You therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. 2 And the things that you have heard me say among many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be qualified to teach others as well.

Memory Verse

Have I not commanded you to be strong and courageous? Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”Joshua 1:9 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Zechariah 1-4

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Near Day 361 of 365 — Zechariah's visions point ahead to the coming King.)

The Heart of It

Paul was an old man in prison. He was writing to his young friend Timothy. And in one short sentence he drew a chain across the years. He said, "The things that you have heard from me... commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also." Count the links. Paul taught Timothy. Timothy teaches faithful people. Those people teach still others. That's four generations of disciples in one verse! Following Jesus was never meant to stop with you. A disciple is someone who is made into a follower of Jesus. Then that disciple helps make more followers. You are a link in a chain that reaches all the way back to Jesus Himself.

So being "sent" doesn't only mean traveling far away. It means becoming the kind of person who passes the faith on. You can pass it to a little brother. You can pass it to a neighbor or a friend at school. One day you might pass it to your own children. And notice how the verse begins. It says, "be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus." We don't pass on the faith by being impressive or pushy. We do it by leaning on His grace. We do it full of His Spirit, faithful over a long lifetime. Character matters more than flash. Faithfulness matters more than fame. That's how the good news has reached every corner of the world. One ordinary, faithful disciple hands it to the next.

Around the Table

Littles 5-8

Someone told YOU about Jesus. Now you can tell someone else! It's like passing a present down a line.

Let's do it: Make a line and pass a small toy from hand to hand. Each time, say, "Here's the good news about Jesus!"

Middles 9-11

Paul taught Timothy. Timothy taught others. The chain kept going, all the way to you.

Let's talk: Who first told you about Jesus? Who could YOU tell next?

Older 12-15

Real discipleship reproduces. Paul's vision spans four generations of faithful teachers ().

Let's go deeper: What would it look like to disciple someone younger this year? Not just to believe yourself, but to help someone else follow Jesus too.

💬 Conversation Starter

If you could teach just one true thing about Jesus to a younger kid, what would you start with?

🛡️ Defending the Faith

The faith has survived two thousand years. It didn't survive by force. It survived because faithful people quietly handed it on. That's exactly what describes. That unbroken chain of changed lives is good evidence all by itself. It shows something real and powerful is at the center of it. When you give an answer for your hope, you become the next link ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Dad, this verse should reframe how you measure success as a father. The win isn't merely that your kids believe. The win is that they become disciples who make disciples. Paul models "spiritual fathering" here. He doesn't just dump information on Timothy. He entrusts a mission to him, and he expects it to multiply. You are doing the same. Every conversation this year was an act of committing these things to faithful hands. The temptation is to think the job is done when a child prays a prayer. But Paul aimed further. He aimed at a Timothy who would equip others. So begin to give your children real responsibility in passing on the faith. Let them explain a Bible truth to a sibling. Let them pray for a lost friend, or invite someone to church. Aim past their salvation to their sending.

Let's Pray Together

"Father, thank You for everyone who passed the good news of Jesus down to us. Make us strong in Your grace and faithful for a lifetime. Help us become disciples who help others follow You too. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

The faith was handed to me. Now I get to hand it on.
