Wonder at His Mighty Works

Month 5: Jesus — God With Us · Family Worship

⏱ ≈ 13 min together

Today's Scripture

Read together: Psalm 107:28–31

28 Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. 29 He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed. 30 They rejoiced in the silence, and He guided them to the harbor they desired. 31 Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men.

Memory Verse

Overwhelmed with fear, they asked one another, “Who is this, that even the wind and the sea obey Him?”Mark 4:41 (BSB)

📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)

Today's reading: Psalm 47; Psalm 48; Psalm 49; Psalm 50

Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 141 of 365 — "Clap your hands, all you peoples!")

The Heart of It

Read slowly today. It is the song behind the story we've been living all week. Long before Jesus stepped into a boat, the psalmist sang about sailors caught in a storm. "Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. He calmed the storm to a whisper, and the waves of the sea were hushed." Does that sound familiar? It is exactly what Jesus did on the Sea of Galilee. The Old Testament said the Lord calms storms. And then the disciples watched Jesus calm one with just a few words. That is the whole point of this month. The One who does what only God can do has come to be with us.

So this is a day to worship. Let your wonder rise into praise. Verse 31 tells us what to do with all we've seen this week. "Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving devotion and His wonders to the sons of men." We've watched Jesus calm a storm. We've watched Him walk on water, catch a sinking friend, heal a man who couldn't walk, and feed thousands from a boy's lunch. The right response isn't just to be impressed. It is to bow our hearts and say thank You. Worship is simply wonder that has found its voice. Today, let your family turn amazement into adoration. Sing together. Thank Him together. Remember together who this Jesus is.

Around the Table

Littles 3–6

Jesus did SO many wonderful things this week! When we love Him for it, that's called worship.

Let's do it: Sing your favorite Jesus song together and clap — thank Him for being so strong and good!

Middles 7–9

says God calms the storm. And that is exactly what Jesus did! Let's thank Him for His wonderful works.

Let's talk: Which of Jesus' mighty works this week amazed you most? Tell Jesus "thank You" for it out loud.

Older 10–13

says the Lord hushes the waves. Then in Mark, Jesus does exactly that. Connecting the two is how the Bible shows us Jesus is God with us.

Let's go deeper: Lead the family in a short time of thanks. Name three wonderful works of Jesus, and turn each one into a sentence of praise.

💬 Conversation Starter

Go around the table: finish this sentence — "Jesus, I think You're amazing because…"

🛡️ Defending the Faith

How do we know Jesus is really God and not just a great man? Watch the pattern. There are things the Old Testament says only the Lord can do. Calm the seas. Forgive sins. Raise the dead. Jesus simply does these things, on His own authority. The fingerprints match. Be ready to point that out gently ().

For Dad · Go Deeper

Family worship doesn't require a stage or musical skill. It requires a father willing to lead his children to wonder. The aim today is not more information. It is deeper affection. You want your kids to feel the weight of who Jesus is, not just file away facts about Him. Singing together is one of the most underused tools you have. It carries truth past the head and into the heart. And it shapes the worship instincts your children will keep for life (). Don't worry if it's a little awkward or off-key. The point is that Dad is not embarrassed to adore Jesus out loud in front of his family. Let them see your wonder. It gives them permission to feel their own.

Let's Pray Together

"Lord Jesus, You do what only God can do. You calm storms. You heal the sick. You feed the hungry. Thank You for Your goodness. We worship You, because You are God with us. In Jesus' name, amen."

Carry It With You

The Lord who calms storms came to be with us. So my wonder turns into worship.
