📖 Bible-in-a-Year (optional)
Today's reading: Judges 8–9
Reading the whole Bible in a year — do this when you have extra time. (Around Day 92 of 365 — the cost of forgetting the God who rescued us.)The Heart of It
Today we slow down and tuck this promise deep into our hearts. Let's walk through it phrase by phrase. "I will pray the Father." Jesus Himself asks for the Spirit on our behalf. The gift comes from the loving heart of the Father, in answer to the Son. "And He will give you." The Holy Spirit is a gift. He is never something we earn by being good enough. "Another Helper." One just like Jesus, who comes alongside us. "That He may abide with you forever." He doesn't visit and leave. He moves in and stays. A verse like this is worth carrying for life.
When we memorize Scripture, we're not just exercising our brains. We're storing up truth the Holy Spirit can bring back to mind exactly when we need it. That's exactly what He does, as we'll see this week in . A scared child can whisper, "He will abide with me forever." A tired dad can remember, "Jesus prayed for me to have this Helper." Hidden in the heart, God's Word becomes a well we can drink from anywhere. In the car. At school. In the dark. So let's say it together, again and again, until it belongs to us.
Around the Table
Let's learn one big idea: God gave us a Helper who stays forever. Forever means He never, ever leaves!
Let's do it: Hold up one finger for "another," hug yourself for "Helper," and stretch arms wide for "forever" as you say the verse.
Try the verse in three chunks: "I will pray the Father," then "He will give you another Helper," then "that He may abide with you forever."
Let's talk: Which word in the verse is your favorite, and why?
Memorize the whole verse with its reference, . Notice the Spirit is given, not earned.
Let's go deeper: How could having this verse memorized actually help you on a hard day?

What's the best gift you've ever been given that you didn't have to earn? The Holy Spirit is God's gift to everyone who belongs to Jesus.
🛡️ Defending the Faith
Why trust a promise that's two thousand years old? Because the One who spoke it kept His biggest promise of all. He said He would rise from the dead, and He did (). A Savior who conquered the grave can be trusted to keep His word about the Helper too.
For Dad · Go Deeper
Don't rush past memory work as kid-stuff. The Hebrew idea behind "hide Your word in my heart" () is treasure stored up for a day of need. And your children's hardest days are coming, when you won't be in the room. The verses you plant now are deposits the Holy Spirit Himself will draw on later. Part of His ministry is to bring Jesus' words "to your remembrance" (). But He can only remind them of what's been put in. So make this fun, not grim. Use rhythm, motions, repetition, a little laughter. You're not drilling soldiers. You're handing your kids ammunition for joy.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You for the gift of Your Spirit. Help us hide this promise in our hearts. Then we will always remember we are not alone. Bring it back to our minds when we need it most. In Jesus' name, amen."
God's Word hidden in my heart today is a treasure the Spirit can hand me tomorrow.
