“He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you but to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”— Micah 6:8 (BSB)memorize this week

Today's reading: Esther 8-10
The plot is overturned, God's people are rescued, and a feast of joy begins — what enemies meant for evil, God turned to good. The Heart of It
Notice the very first thing our memory verse says. "He has shown you, O man, what is good." We are not left in the dark, guessing and hoping we get it right. God has shown us. The prophet Micah was talking to people who thought being good meant giving God a big pile of religious gifts. But God said the good He wants is simpler and deeper than that. First, "do justly." That means treat people fairly and right. Next, "love mercy." That means be kind and forgiving, the way God is kind to us. And then, "walk humbly with your God." That means stay close to Him. Don't be proud or pretend we don't need Him. Three little phrases hold a whole life of doing right.
Here's the wonderful part for someone who wants to defend the faith. God is not a secret. He doesn't hide what is good and then get angry when we miss it. He has made it clear. He shows us in the world He created. He shows us in the conscience He put inside us. And most of all, He shows us in His written Word and in Jesus. So when a friend says, "How could anybody really know what's right?" you can answer with hope. God has shown us. Our job isn't to invent goodness. Our job is to do the good He has already made plain. And we do it humbly, leaning on Him.
Around the Table
God doesn't keep "good" a secret! He shows us: be fair, be kind, and stay close to Him.
Let's do it: Do the actions as you say the verse — point your eyes (shown), balance fairly (justly), hug (mercy), bow gently (humbly).
"Do justly, love mercy, walk humbly." That's God's good in three pieces. Justice is being fair. Mercy is being kind even to people who don't deserve it. And humility is staying close to God instead of being proud.
Let's talk: Which of the three is easiest for you? Which is hardest?
Micah's listeners thought being good was about religious performance. God pointed them instead to a changed life and a changed heart. Real goodness is relational. It's "walking with your God," not impressing Him from a distance.
Let's go deeper: How is "walk humbly with your God" different from just trying really hard to be a good person on your own?

If you had to teach a five-year-old what "being good" means using only three short phrases, which three would you pick? How close are they to Micah's three?
🛡️ Defending the Faith
A friend might say, "Nobody can really know what's good." We can gently reply that God has shown us what is good (). He shows us in creation, in our conscience, and clearest of all in Jesus. We say it humbly, the same way the verse tells us to walk. We say it with kindness, not pride ().
For Dad · Go Deeper
is a goldmine for raising children who are both truthful and gracious. Justice without mercy makes harsh, self-righteous kids. Mercy without justice makes mushy kids with no backbone. And both without humility makes proud kids who think they've mastered God. Your home needs all three held together. And your children mostly learn them by watching you. Do they see you "do justly" when it costs you? Do they see you "love mercy" toward the family member who wronged you? Do they see you "walk humbly" and admit when you are wrong? Apologizing to your kids when you've blown it is one of the most powerful apologetics lessons you will ever teach. It shows that goodness is real, and that even Dad bows to it.

Let's Pray Together
"Father, thank You that You have shown us what is good. Help us do what is right. Help us love being kind. Help us walk close to You. In Jesus' name, amen."
God hasn't hidden goodness from me. He has shown me: do justly, love mercy, walk humbly with Him.
